It is a old outside building with much needed funds and help. People who are volunteering and running the place are dedicated local humanitarian! Fantastic cause with so much heart and dedication. They are supporting with the funds they get 83 children. 51 girls living in the house and 32 boys are living in the outside hut. It's amazing work to give these orphan children education, home, food and hope. If you are looking for a fancy kitchen and work stations etc. this experience is not for you. If you like to learn the true Cambodian cooking in true rustic environment and immerse yourself into the reality of local living THIS IS IT!
I strongly suggest this experience. It's win win and fantastic journey. While learning awesome traditional Cambodian food, you are also helping orphan children and underprivileged local farmers!
It's a must do tour!
Ben was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and fun! He picked us up from our Hotel, made an effort to remember our names and find out about us. We ventured to some local markets on the outskirts of Siem Reap to see fruit, vegetables, legumes, spices, fish and meat. We found this extremely valuable and interesting!
Next with our group we drove to a nearby house where the orphanage uses the facilities too (sleeping etc). It was wonderful to be off the beaten track and see how the local Cambodian people live.
We cooked the most delicious spring rolls, chicken amok and banana sago dessert. We also tasted the other group's pumpkin custard.
Thank you to Ben and his team for the most eye-opening, memorable and incredible experience. It was a day to remember that we will cherish forever!
Great place , nice staff , it’s in a really nice location .
Wonderful experience. Ben is very entertaining, he speaks English, French, Thai and Khmer at the very least! Great story, fun leisurely morning and for a good cause not for profit helping local kids. Check out TripAdvisor for more detailed reviews.
This was the best cooking class ive done yet. Really nice staff. You went to a local market and they explained everything really well. Then you made all you courses it was amazing.
We really enjoyed this class and the experience with our hosts. It was nice having hotel pickup and going to a market first. They accommodated my vegetarianism well. Super small class of 2, so lots of personal attention!
Such a peaceful cooking experience. Ben is knowledgeable about food and his local area. Getting to know him and his business was fantastic. His English is perfect so communication was easy. The food we made was incredible and I am eager to try recreating when I get home. Only complaint is I was told it was a gluten free kitchen and for the most part it was but the fried egg rolls use soy sauce and being highly allergic to gluten I did get sick after. Just wish instead of saying it was to be aware of this. Also one girl mentioned she preferred vegetarian meals and he didn't take that as seriously either since I had requested we make the chicken amok and instead of either changing menu or making a separated version for her so she felt a little uncomfortable. Being pretty major issues I took a star off.
We had a great experience with the host Ben and his colleagues. Learning the authentic Khmer dishes at the local village. Learn a lot about the lives of ordinary Cambodian people. We made Banana flower salad, Amok chicken, and Pumpkin custard (Cambodian people like to use duck eggs which taste a bit strange to some people). Definitely the greatest experience other than visiting the temples in Siem Reap!
Giornata stupenda con Ben e la sua cooking class!!
We took this class oct 24th and it was amazing. Ben is great at what he does and genuinely wants to share his culture and cuisine. He even took pictures of us and emailed us the recipes so we can make amok back home. Prompt response via email and hotel pickup. He Keeps the classes to 6people max. It was all Truly memorable.
Excellent authentic cooking class - Ben gives a good insight into a combodian rural community. The trip to the food market on the outskirts of Shieam Reap another highlight . Recommended
