This is the worst Cambodian land border with Thailand if you need a visa on arrival. The officers will try to overcharge you and either won't budge at all or you will struggle to pay the official price. This is especially true if you need an ordinary visa, in which case the officer will hold up a laminated sign stating you need certain documents to pay the official price of US$35. However, for US$45 (or an even more inflated amount in Baht) it's no questions asked. For tourist visas it's a similar game though it's a bit easier to get the official price. If you don't want to pay their rip off rates you may be ejected from their office although they will probably eventually cave in. If bringing in a car, it should be Thai registered. Other foreign registrations may be refused entry, though in the past Malaysian cars were allowed in. You will be asked where you are going (always say Koh Kong if asked) or told you can't leave the province and will be charged 100 Baht per day for each day your car stays in Cambodia. There is nothing stopping you from driving anywhere in Cambodia once you have entered, just don't let the customs officers know. They will also hold onto either your Thai customs export form or your blue book so you'll need to return to Thailand through this border. You will also be charged 100 Baht for the guy to lift the gate. There is sometimes a health quarantine desk which you should avoid - it's a scam. Drivers of cars aren't asked to go here, but if you come on foot you may be scammed for 20 Baht or so. Leaving is a piece of cake, if there are no other travelers in line at immigration, it takes literally only a minute or two. If you arrived by car, don't forget to collect your documents after which a guy will lift the gate for you. Be careful in the no man's land - there is no traffic switch over lane or sign so it's a free for all here - some vehicles drive on the right, some on the left. Once you're back past the Thai gate everyone drives on the left again. This is not a big deal though since traffic is very light and the no man's land is merely 100m wide.

Worst place ever ! Everyone is here to take you're cash, the visa is 400 Baths bit you'll wait 4 hours unless you pay 1600 baths (in the first place we were told it was 1200 bath). To rech your destination they will take an additional 100 bath/ personne ! If you don't accept you'll have 5 more hours to wait.
It's not really about the amount, it's about the first impression that they give you. There was another guy, his passeport had only 5 month before ending, they asked 4000 baths to let him in, he didn't got enough monnaie so he had to go back in Thailand. The best part was the guy asking 100 more for the Chinese New year No shame and no pity !

It is the gate to the Wild West of south east asia. They try to cheat you everywhere. Just paid 1600Baht for the visa. This is about 600baht too much. I think this was my learing moneyJust stand in the line at the official desk and wait patentiely. While doing this, people try to convince you not to do so and buy a visa from them. Only talk with people with uniforms. First border I crossed where someelse took my lugagge over the borderOf course they also took 100Baht for this..

Had no problem at all (surprised after all the comments!)
Had applied for an e-Visa beforehand. Asked to do a Medical but when advised we have our own, they advised it was free (!!), then just a friendly smile, stamp and out. No extra money, very sweet guy

We did however see people mad when coming out from the Visa Room. Maybe it helps to have the e-Visa beforehand?

No problem with the police here. Just be polite, patient and prepared. Transport to and from is the biggest scam as the regional Thai and Khmer transport hubs are a few kilometres away. I'd rather fly via Phnom Penh and BKK as the road trip is no longer an adventure with the numerous bridges constructed from Koh Kong to Sihanoukville.

From Thailands side they charge extra money for Cambodia visa. Give 30$ for tourist or bussiness visa (you cant extend tourist visa more than one time for one month, if u want to stay longer take bussiness vissa). They wil show print with something in Cambodia paper with text 30$ + 7 $ ignore it..

This is scam central. There will be people trying to convince you to go to a back room to 'process' or 'speed up' your border crossing. Refuse. Just wait in line and keep your cool. Do not give over any of your bus tickets. Some people traveling with us were told by their bus driver to give their connecting tickets. He took them and they were out of a ride when they got across the border. Scams like this are common. Do your research, keep your eyes, open, and be safe. Good luck!

Do not ask any "helpers" here even do not talk with them - here is plenty of cheaters. Read internet first, fill out your form yourself and pay as described on government website. Be patient and smile even some officer try to shout at you. Do not let them to overcharge and reap you off.
Better to remain in Thailand.

You may be asked 700 THB for BKK here,
but you can walk to Hat Lek, go to Trat by 120 THB miniban, and at Trat, you can find a bus 230 THB for BKK.
Total 350 THB.

Dont give your passport to anybody. Write yourself, bear your lugage yourself. Have a picture from you. Dont pay anything to anybody. Visa is for free They shitted us a lot. I hate this place

Maybe this will be helpful to others - how I got my $30 visa for Cambodia:

Joked around with the touts following me while declining help filling out the paperwork.
Upon filling in visa application, was asked into visa services office.
Officer asked if I had photos - I said no - he quoted me 1600thb.
Said I wanted to pay in US dollar and held $32 ready for visa & 'photo fee'.
Officer asked for $37 and handed me a laminated 'press release' from 2014, stating an additional $7 processing fee.

Did my best to be non-confrontational and keep smiling.
Tried a few different ways to show that I know it should be $30 - 'maybe fee was lowered this year?'; showed previous visa from same year and said I paid $30; said friends paid $30.
Tried chatting about football game running on officer's smartphone.
No luck.

Officers were getting impatient.
Eventually told me to take a tuktuk to get a photo made - 'no photo no $30 visa'.
Said that previously I paid $2 to have passport photocopied.
No can do.

Luckily had another passport photo with me.
Handed it over together with $30.
Officer took photo and cash and put the visa in my passport.
Phew!

Altogether spent around 10 minutes in visa services office.

Went to immigration window, filled in arrival card, surrounded by touts, got stamps and was finished.

More joking with the touts while sipping a drink to kill time.

Tuktuk arrived, dropping off backpackers - offered $3 including bridge fee to go to Koh Kong - driver accepted.

In town driver told me I was smart to ask him over the touts, since he had to drive back anyway to get home.

Suprisingly, very kind immigration on arrival visa team. Here to "Koh kong" by moto dop cost is 3 dollors or 100 thb. Bridge admission(or toll fee) fee is 1400 khr. It is fixed price.
