I had read the reviews online prior to booking my safari tour with Pega Tours. They were a mixed bag so I decided to contact Pega Tours. On their website one price was listed for my tour so that is the price I expected to pay at the office. However, when I went to the office I was told by the manager Jane Kihara (I would not trust her as far as I could throw her!) a different price. ($30 more than listed on their website) And she was even making it sound like she had given me a discount. I asked her why the price was $30 more and she told me because the prices on their website were not updtaed!!! I told her I should only pay what is listed on their website. Then she told me that the park entrance had gone up and that is why I had to pay her $30 more. Seriously??? ! I reminded her that the park entrance is paid separately and has nothing to do with Pega Tours and in fact the park recently reduced the entrance by $25 to attract more tourists. She then said the reduced park entrance prices were only for the locals. Not correct at all which I told her. Then she told me the fuel prices in Kenya had gone up and that is why I had to pay her $30 more. Whatever. I only paid her 1/3 of the price in advance and told her I would pay the difference the following day when the tour was to take place. I also wanted to pay with c/c but was told that wat not possible. Although they had a c/c machine and Visa stickers all over the office suggesting they do accept credit cards. I later learned Jane wanted cash so she could pocket the extra $30 she was trying to over charge me by. I stayed at Peter’s house (the boss) and I only met him briefly as he was going out of town but he seemed like a nice guy and his housekeeper and family were such lovely people. The accommodation is very simple but the food served was good. So after talking to another guest at the house who went on the same exact tour the day before me, that I was going on. I found out she had only paid the price listed on the website. So I contacted Jane and told her I would not be paying anything more than what was listed ont he website. She then agreed and did not bother to come and collect the money the following day as initially agreed to. And told me to just give it to the boss. So in other words since she was now not going to collect the extra $30 she was going to pocket, then there was no need to meet me the follwoing day to collect payment. Very sneaky woman. The tour itself was good but the guide showed up 1.5 hours late! I demanded the tour ended 1.5 hours later since he could not show up on time and he agreed to that. A shame he did not show up on time though because maybe we would have seen more animals had we arrived earlier. I would be very aware when booking with these people and make sure Jane does not try to over charge.
we booked a tour with pega tours to go to lake Bongoria to see the flamingos and the hot springs, unfortunately the trip was a complete disappoint after paying $80 to enter the park our guide proceeded to show us different areas containing the flamingos which after the first two stops for photos it was enough with the flamingos. We were disappointed with the fact that we saw only one warthog and a turtle. (even more of a waste).
our driver then told a complete lie and stated the rode to the hot springs was impassable and that the hot springs were submerged. This is strange because geysers shout into the air therefore they couldn't be submerged.
If you are considering booking a tour Don't Waste your time our your hard earned money. This company is the pits!!!!!!!!!!!!
I booked two tours with Pega. The first one was to the Lake Nakuru National Park wich was a good experience due to the very nice guide John. The other one was to the Masai Mara. For that one Peter the Boss of Pega Tours gave me wrong information on the accommodation (stayed in a different camp than he said) and lied to me about the "Great Migration". I asked several times if it had really started early this year and he insisted it had. Before going to the Mara I heard from other sources that this was not the case. After arriving there the driver and guide confirmed that the Migration would probably start a month later. Very dishonest.
The home stay Pega offers in Nakuru is basic but offers tasty food and there are usually other interesting guests around.
The Safari Vehicle is fit for the good roads inside the Lake Nakuru Park but very unsafe for long distance travel.
expensive car hire services,
I highly recommend not using Pega Tours. They take no pride in making your experience memorable. The driver was 3 hours late picking me up and then proceeded to rush me through the whole experience. (Even after the trip I waited an hour and a half to get picked up for Nakuru) After speaking with management about my problems, they proceeded to tell me I should have received 15 hours inside the park, but I was only in there for less than 10 hours. The boss refused to apologize and offered no compensation because the other customer "had no problems". He then lied to me that he wasn't the boss and the boss was "on holiday" even though he was right there in the room. Pega could care less about customer satisfaction; therefore I do not recommend!
