A beautiful site with a rich coastal history , it is very educative and interesting. It is a must visit for any tourist visiting mombasa. It is also ideal for events such as corporate dinners and product launches. You can either hire a local tour guide or if you are lucky you can get an intern to guide you for free

There's a lot of history here. I've been fortunate to visit several times and this time I took my boys. Didn't expect them to enjoy the visit as much as they did. The view of the ocean is incredible.

A good place to visit if you are in Mombasa. Give a insight to native history. The view of the sea is great and the ground adjacent it serves as a football ground and watching kids play is fun. The fort is filled with historical cannons and articles with there berief description beneath them. Only negative is its too expensive to visit inside if you are not a local and its better to take a guide.

One of the UNESCO World heritage site in KENYA. This building is historical and worth place to visit if your are in Mombasa! Normally its on peak on weekends and public holidays. During Weekdays it's nice to pay a visit because less people. Outside the area is not much clean on ocean it's not clean. Parking is very limited too.

It's a nice place to visit. Charges around KES 150 for adult citizen. Carries a big chunk of Kenya's history.

Built by the Portuguese in the 1600s, it is shaped in the form of the body of Christ with both arms, head, the body and the feet. The watch towers atop the corners define this. The history of its transition from the Portuguese to the Oman Arabs and subsequently to the National Museums of Kenya is well detailed. We had a guide called Bashir Hassan Ali, a lively fellow with very good knowledge of both the Fort and Mombasa Old Town as well as the Port. To all Kenyan Citizens (Adults -200/=, Kids below 16 -100/=) and Residents from within East Africa (Adults - 400/=, Kids - 200/=) as well as tourists (Non residents - 1200/=), make a point of visiting this beautiful heritage And get a guide!!!

Located in the Mombasa's Old town, Fort Jesus continues to impress since it was built in 1596that's a very long time!!. You will be wowed by the rich history preserved there-in. Portuguese, Arabs, and British once inhabited this fort in a bid to conquer the seas and land. It is educational, it is cultural, it is beautiful, it is simplyEPIC

The old of the old when you talk of Mombasa. Located in Mombasa old town next to the shore. Home to the first Sultanies. A good tourist attraction site though they need to maintain the place, in 10 years or so we won't be having the fort Jesus. Came to think of it, how did it acquire the name "Jesus" whereas Arabs were the occupant..?

The Fort Jesus is a historic building. Fort Jesus, Mombasa. The Fort was built by the Portuguese in 1593-1596 to the designs of Giovanni Battista Cairati to protect the port of Mombasa. It is one of the most outstanding and well preserved examples of the 16th Portuguese military fortification and a landmark in the history of this type of construction. The view from the inside to the ocean is so beautiful. Great to know what used to happen in it during the years of the Portuguese.

Definitely a must visit place which rich in culture about the coastal town of Mombasa. There's an affordable entrance charge and you can find local tour guides at an extra affordable fee. There are several vendors selling local ware good as souvenirs such as sea shells, khangas, local beaded bracelets, neck pieces etc.

Anyone visiting mombasa and having a bit of a thing for history should definitely visit Fort Jesus. It definitely is a throwback in time. Only caution is to be wary of the travel guides outside of the fort. They're very knowledgeable but negotiate the price first before the tour begins

The restaurant aside offers almost the same view. This fortress presents the past belongings of the region, memory of times that you don't imagine as joyfull. For paying the ticket, the Fort allows you to visit a house dedicated in promoting Oman, remembering you that harsh times are right around the corner.
For less than the tenth of the price, get a tuck tuck and get to the beach.response / report this review -

the fort is well preserved with intimate information of the historical events connected to the fort. entrance fee is reasonable including guide fee. more marketing should be done to promote tourism to this place; both local and international, so that more people can understand our history
