There is Kenya's premier airport that has greatly improved over there past five years. This is in regards to new terminals, airport hotels, restaurants and parking space. There is still room for improvement to match the quality levels of the best airports in the world as well as cement it's status as Africa's best airport.
Represents the true spirit of Africa. The people there are friendly and willing to help. Downside though not too many facilities to enjoy outside the departure terminals
It is beautiful but the major problem here is poor parking space ..The services here are perfect and amazing.. The flight attendants also know their job very well.. Come and have a cosy flight with Kenya airways!! Such a beautiful experience!!
Homosexual Kenyatta airport is one of the worst airports in Africa. It has been my misfortune to travel to and from this airport on 5 occasions in the last 8 months. Arriving into Terminal 1E you are faced by massive queues to get an entry visa which costs either 30 pounds or 50 US dollars, however they want dollars not pounds as they can then screw you out of more money.
Having negotiated the hour or more long queues you are then faced with finding out which carousel your bags are on as they tell you one thing but then change their minds without notice.
The next thing is to try and organise a taxi, and good luck with that.
Driving in Nairobi is an experience in its own right and you will not forget the journey as it is frightening. There is no real rules of the road as far as I can see so your just better off closing your eyes and hoping to god you arrive in one piece.
Coming back into the airport is equally mystifying. You have to alight from the vehicle at the permanent vehicle check point go through a scanner which never seems to alarm, then rejoin your vehicle to be dropped off outside Terminal 1B if your travelling BA. Then you proceed through the first X-RAY scanner before then checking in. Next is immigration folded by going upstairs to await call forward to your gate. Once inside the gate you then face 3 more checks before moving into the holding area. Beware though, as once into this area there are no toilet facilities this side of the gate. Call forward is - at best described as a lottery, with people literally fighting to board the plane first.
All in all I think that this airport has to be one of the worst airports I’ve ever had the misfortune to pass through. Avoid it like the plague if you can.
Refurbished parking. Refurbished arrivals terminal and bathrooms. Well done team! It takes a lot to recover from a fire.
I wish this East African Airport was better organized.
To get to the airport premise was a mess. Had to get out of car in the middle of the road. There was only one line for all passengers to go through so called metal detector. Imagine an international airport with only one security line for all passengers. This was unacceptable and a safety hazard.
Inside the terminal was clean, better and good businesses with great African traditional materials for shopping. There is even a nice prayer room. The airline customer service was good.
Overall, the airport management can do much better while not compromising safety.
The WC services are great. There are many shops to choose from as you wait for your flight. The view of the runway is magnificent and there are many ports to charge your phone or to connect your laptop. Security is good and there is usually no congestion.
Not many shops and restaurants
Free wifi is only available for one hour ?? Why is there a time limit to passengers that are there for more than one hour.
Reasonably clean and accessible.
There is a security check at the main gate and all passengers need to get off their vehicles, go through security first. The private vehicles are also being scanned from underneath.
Nice open area s you walk out the building and nice decorations of African animals in the outdoor areas.
Good airport, very well setup for transiting passengers. Generally OK security although there a queues in the morning and checking in can be a bit challenging for the morning flights with a number of flights leaving almost at the same time. Good restaurants and great WiFi, with 30 mins free.
Well designed airport with appropriate signage to enable one get about without a fuss. The airport staff are friendly and helpful as always, providing service with a smile. The ablution facilities are clean with attendants ensuring the high standard is maintained. The duty free shopping area is relatively well stocked. Overall, travelling through JKIA is a pleasant experience.
This one of the big airports on the continent and home of the Kenyan Airways, which is among those with good names and reputations. The only thing that I did not like here was that, the security checking and the waits there are terrifying. There is always a very long line and astringent security checks.
Five star rated Airport. High security checking.fast & best services. The airport is clean & well maintained. The response of all the service is very fast & cordial. Fastest immigration services.
A nice airport if a bit dated. Food options are very limited but the friendliness of the staff make up for it. We only transited through en-route to and from South Africa so only experienced transfer area and international departures. Security was a bit hit and miss with different staff requiring different levels of checks.
Awesome arts in the airport. Such a clean place with tight security. No moneygram services once you pass the Security Checks.
For a African airport I'll give it 3.5 stars.
Has the basic amenities for an airport, however if you are transferring flights this can be problematic as they will push you from the transfer gate back through screening which will mean you'll be in a mad rush to get to the next flight. (you'll need at least 30 minutes to go through screening on an average day)
The duty free is expensive for what it is compared to the rest of the airports.
Bring US Dollars.
Also there is a potential option coming in of going on a short safari next to the airport which they are looking at, so get some research going.. you'll need at least 4 hours they were saying.
Could be cleaner. Could have more amenities. Could have better PA systems.
A nice airport in just say n very busy too.. Very tight security and lots of duty free shops around the gates. Just remember to remind them to put your liquid duty free items into the sealable bags before final screening at the gate. I could not find any restaurants around though. However there are couple of lounges there.
Terminal 1c: only duty free shops no food a bit of seating. At least maybe let the people out after check in to get some food from Java house for example. I recommend, eat before you check in. Go to the airport 5 hours before your flight because traffic is a big mess. If you go into the lounge you are treated better then in the walkway don't fly terminal 1C
Best airport in Kenya, it needs to open more. Security needs to be upgraded and customs office at the entry points need to be educated more.
Even Though there is alot to be done.. i love the speed of Developments taking Place. KUDOS KAA
One of the most beautiful lounges around the world , something for every one and the rate is friendly for those not allowed for free.Great duty free shops and coffee shops.
Best Airport at kenya that offers flights internationally and also at internal airports like mombasa and Kisumu.
Pretty lax security. Vast discrepancies in terminals. Poor WiFi connectivity.
