Great local vintage styled cafe to have coffee, or lunch and hang out with friends. The staffs are so nice, and try their best to help you out even though they can speak little English. English menu is available.

Eclectic cozy cafe repurposed from an Onsen. Staff is friendly and menu is priced fairly and delicious. Ordered the “cat fried rice” which was well portioned and not to salty! Would definitely recommend after visiting Funaoka Onsen right down the street.

A nice a cozy environment, friendly staff and a diverse menu. A nice casual quiet place with English menu available. The meals are filling and delicious.

The food was delicious, the price was very reasonable, and everyone who worked there looked like they enjoyed themselves. Even though they didn't speak English, they were very kind and patient while we used Google Translate to order, so I'd recommend them to Japanese natives and foreigners alike. The repurposed bathhouse is a great design and the chocolate parfait was fantastic! We'll definitely come back if we are in Kyoto again!

This was featured in many magazines, was used to public bathhouse in the 70's. Nice atmosphere. Food was normal and reasonable price. Lunch set was 940 yen. I liked this cafe.

Very pleasant, welcoming, wide variety of food options as long as you like fried. They have an English menu, but are clearly a place for locals.

Nick name the Onsen Cafe as is used to be a public bathhouse in the past. The place is like a blast back to the olden Kyoto with titles and pipes still intact.
The usual cocoa/hot chocolate is thick and sweet which is really good. However their special menu which is usually season is even better. The hot cocoa with marshmallow and Oreo latte was the best thing ever. Is sad that is not in the regular menu.
The food is not over salty and is doesn't give you a full punch of flavors but is a very mellow and comforting taste that doesn't make you sick of it.
The sukiyaki fried rice is one of the best I ever eaten, but recently they seem to take out of menu. (Could be seasonal) The cat favorite fried rice is also really unique.response / report this review -

Is an interesting cafe, with an old 1970's feel, we unfortunately didn't stay as it was a smoking cafe, and its reaked If you are not a smoker don't waste your time going here

For me it wasn't so great because of the open smoke section which spread all over the cafe (although a common occurrence here in Japan) but it just felt a bit dirty to me.
Food was a bit bland to both me (I got the chicken steak) and my girlfriend (she got the gratin).
However, I really like the concept of the place being an old sento and the staff was very polite and friendly.response / report this review -

According to locals, this is the initiater of kyoto cafe movement. Their fruits mux juice is tasty. Their icon of renovation if old public bath interior and exterior is something yoy shikld pay attention. Their retro style.
