Stayed one night. It was lovely, and that's all I have to say!
Quaint ryokan surrounded by woods and rivers. Staff were lovely and spoke enough English to communicate. The only negative were that we going two kamemushi in the room, not a quick call to the front desk and they arrived to catch them within a minute.
Restaurant with great river view. I stop by everytime I visit Jingoji temple or Kozanji temple. It's just in front of the bus stop.
You can enjoy udon noodle with wild boa meat in winter season.
Great place. Only reason it didn't get a 5 star is that the public bath was not open air (outdoors). Was inside with a window that you can open.
This place was great. The location is amazing, and so is the service. The meals might throw off foreigners as they are traditional Japanese meals.
The location was in the mountains. The shuttle to the ryokan was a typical shuttle van but the sights over were lovely. Going through a remote town with fog gathering around was quiet scenic. Once we arrived the staff were very courteous. We had to remove our shoes and the host held them in the front office area while we wore our slippers the whole time throughout the ryokan. We were shown to our room and given yukatas to wear. Very interesting experience! Loved every moment of it and the 7 course dinner was phenomenal. Like hands down wow experience. Would go back again in a heart beat.
Beautiful and secluded. Did a private onsen bath, very intimate and natural feel. Modernized enough, and yet traditional enough to be both a comfortable and enriching experience. The place was clean, service was impeccable, food was fresh. Only thing was that some of the dishes were a little adventurous for me.
Sleeping on the floor next to huge beetles with no private bathroom is not really my cup of tea. We missed the dinner and the breakfast was very traditional - a lot of weird stuff. The buildings were beautiful and we enjoyed the use of the onsen but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hate the overall experience!
Great experience! Especially if you want to try something less touristy and more traditional. Be prepared for a traditional Japanese dinner served in your room with many courses (breakfast is served in the dining room, as well). Highly recommend the rooms with private baths on the balcony. Beautiful scenery and very friendly staff. It's a bit of a journey from Kyoto, but they provide a shuttle service so you can still visit the sights in Kyoto.
Dinner and breakfast was amazing. Service and shuttle bus from station was great! Room was clean and beautiful view. Only minor complaint is that the private bathroom and shower is not amazingly clean but I can live past it.
