It's the omlette rice man! The omlette rice man of your dreams, of the BuzzFeed imitations, and of the viral videos. He is an excellent showman and a wonderful dude. I would recommend making a reservation a few months in advance because he is 62 and works from 6-9 and then goes to bed. The omlette rice is decent, tasty, could use an upgrade but moderately satisfying. I would go just for the show. 5 stars for service and showmanship.
The chef was really friendly and entertaining, definitely will pose for you with his signature dish.
This place has to make reservation about 3 months ahead and it’s a cosy & quaint “restaurant”.
The food was an OK, not mind-blowing delicious but the omu was really creamy, the fried rice underneath was pretty mediocre. The beef stew was not bad too.
It’s not exactly cheap but everyone goes there for the experience!
Was lucky enough to snag a reservation, only to leave with disappointment. The decor and service was very nice, but the food was lacking. Omurice was overpriced and bland. The chicken casserole however was quite nice, but still slightly overpriced.
Their reservation system is terrible and you pretty much have to fight a billion people to get that 1 spot. Also, when they say their reservation schedule refreshes every Sunday at noon, they were lying, so you'll actuallt have to keep an eye out every hour on fhat day ,like you have no life, if you want to reserve a spot.
Two stars for the show but zero for the food. It’s a trap now and I fell for it. Watch other’s videos and ask a local for better omurice. The staff and the chef were nice but it is not worth it, taste and all. 😢
Experience for the show but expensive price for average food. Not very suitable for large group. Very tiny place. Reservation is a MUST
Chef is a super nice guy. The omurice is every bit as theatrical as the internet suggests, but to my tastebuds the beef stew was the winner.
Don't bother coming to this place. There's a better omurice place just 5mins away. Go to L'oeuf much better. Cheaper and wayyy better!
Book book book in advance! We missed this crucial point and we unfortunately missed this place with raving reviews. It will be on out list and hopefully 5 stars next time.
This is a long awaited visit after some years of seeing the experience on YouTube. I am in Kyoto for a day literally just to come here. Got there sharp at 5 hoping not to have to wait. Good news, no wait. But to my surprise, the place is booked for the day. In fact it's booked forward for the next 6 weeks (make sure to call and make a reservation before hand). The waitress however is nice enough to squeeze me in. Very small place. Fits maybe 14-16 people total? The experience, the omurice, and the chef is as advertised. Good food, good people there. But some how I feel a little bit underwhelming. The whole goes by within 25 minutes. It feels like after watching an amazing trailer the movie has only one act, which is the trailer. For some reason I just had a lot more expected in my mind.
A bit pricey but a great gooey omurice with a photogenic chef. Small area but good service
This place has blown up in popularity due to the chef's performance going viral on YouTube. It really is exactly like the YouTube vid so it was an entertaining meal. However, I must say that the food was nothing special.
If you come without reservation, try to come at 8.20pm. Without reservation before that time you must leave. Good presentation from chef, but taste not really good for me. Standard size of fluffy omurice ¥2700, half size ¥1450
Popular among tourist, famous at Youtube.
We were so excited to finally try this famous omurice in Kyoto!! However, we were quite disappointed by their service toward us.
The party of 5 who sat next to us were offered hot towelette upon their arrival, but we did not get any somehow [maybe they forgot ???]
I have asked one of the waitress if they have croquette since I have seen them on instagram posts, she told us that they did not have any. BUT after 10-15 minutes, the party of 5 who sat next to us were served with 3 orders of croquette.
Not sure if it's because we were not local? but we felt the service weren't great at all comparing to other places. Food was just alright AND NOT WORTH THE HYPE!
Amazing hole-in-the-wall find. The chef was extremely welcoming and even put on a show for us when we took our cameras out. The place is small and full of character. The Omurice was awesome.
