Very interesting old map on the floor of the church with a rich history. I recommend reading about it in the museum next door behind the gift shop and then looking at it again. It really gives you context and appreciation for the map.

The star of Madaba's Byzantine attractions, this church houses what remains of the famed 6th century mosaic map of the Holy Land. A unique example of Byzantine cartography and art, this map is the earliest existing map of the Holy Land that has been found to date. It depicted the cities, towns and landscapes of the biblical areas on both the west and east banks of the Jordan River, though unfortunately less than a third of the original map remains today. There is an information Center beside the church where you can learn more about the history of this important mosaic before visiting it.

Entrance tickets are 1 JOD and opening hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm daily except Sunday 10:00am to 5:00pm.

i love this place and i like to pray their on Friday morning ,its mosaic map display life style and places at byzantine age , very wonderful place to visit .

Such an amazing spiritual ancient church. The mosaic makes it so special and you could see the map of the holy cities. It combines jordan and Palestine. It was renovated but with the same old original style of the church.
The entrance fees for Jordanians is 1 JOD per person. I thought it’s a bit overpriced compared to other historical places in Amman.

it's so remarkable that in ancient times people already had a detailed map of the holy city. We're quite lucky that we still can see some parts of it. It's in an Greek Church in Madaba, Jordan. The entrance is 1 JOD.

The mosaic is a bit difficult to see clearly because of its location in the church and the barriers which obviously are necessary for its preservation. The church itself is interesting, with a large number of paintings, and is also still in use as a place of worship.

A short drive from the Dead Sea but worth the trip. This is one of the oldest know churches in the world. I would combine with a lunch at Haret Jdoudna just down the road.

AKA as the "Map Church" as it has a map of Jerausalem and the Holy Land consisting of around 2 million mosaics. Some parts are missing and a lot of efforts have been put to rebuild and maintain
"The Madaba Mosaic Map covers the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, which is located northwest of the city centre. The church was built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 15.6 X 6m, 94 sq.m., only about a quarter of which is preserved. "

It is a good stop at the beginning of the journey if you are visiting both Jordan and Israel, and even Egypt. The mosaic map gives perspective of where historical accounts happened and gives a great overview of the region to place the stories of each city and site.

One of the three remaining churches from Roman rule in Israel. Great, historic place of worship with a truly wonderful atmosphere. Do remember to take a look at the renowned mosaic map!

An old church and educational complex, most important and valuable part is the mosaic map in the church that represents whole of the middle east and old Egypt, it's fantastic that the monk who made it had this vision upon all this huge area, evedent it shows biblical places and events. A must visit once you're in Madaba - Jordan, 1jd is the entrance fee, kind personal and well informed. A shop with spiritual souvenirs, restroom
