Lively, vibrant - great place to watch the sun set. Jumping off the cliff edge was awesome. Had the tastiest jerk chicken from a vendor just outside - well worth sampling. Clean washroom facilities. Two bars and restaurant serving a mix of American burger type meals and some Jamaican treats. Great atmosphere created by the DJ and live band. Worth the visit and the jump.
Great for the cliff jumping which u can do urself or watch pros perform in the evening. Good music whether deejay or band. Can get crowded in the evening but good party crowd. Good unfortunately is just tourist food. Overpriced burgers and fries . Had what would be a proper meal of fish and chips . It a freezer fries and found a staple in my fish. Not a place for good food. Better off at a roadside shack. Must add also. Staff is very friendly and was fine with taking my plate off the bill. Thank you.
Amazing sunset! What a great spot. The sunset was perfect. Cliff jumping was really cool. You can do it and 3 levels and there Is a crazy 4th one a guy jumps off of for tips. Good food and drinks. Party atmosphere. I'd arrange a ride as we did see an issue in the surrounding area. Perfect spot for dinner drinks and the sunset!
Good food. Nice flavors. Service is not real fast but we were prepared for that and went early to get a good seat and not be in a rush. Wait staff was awesome, friendly and very attentive. We had seating upstairs that allowed for us to have a great view of the cliff jumpers and the stage. Live music started a little after 6pm. We arrived at Rick's around 3pm and stayed until almost 7pm.
Interesting place. Free entertainment but pricey on the food/alcohol. But then nothing in Jamaica is cheap. Good entertainment especially for the younger crowd. If you have a driver then fun should be in your hands. A cold Red One and you're in your way. You won't regret the trip up there. Just make sure you have good transportation.
Fun place to watch cliff diving and the sunset. Drinks are reasonable priced and the atmosphere is fun. We came here twice and saw the locals do the 75' jump, a lot of tourist did the 35' jump. You can get here by boat or by the cab/bus. They have a store that sells merchandise and an upstairs for more seating. The food here is good too - we had a burger and fries which came out fairly quickly.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS BAR!!!! They are amazing. Really good vibes here. They have a pool and a bar and also a hill where you can jump from to the sea. You can view the sunset. A M A Z I N G! It's a must, dear.
Negirls most popular tourist spot for cliff jumping and high priced drinks and amazing sunsets. Definitely on the tourist side but for a good reason and worth a visit. Don’t expect the real Jamaican experience but don’t miss the unforgettable view and great place to jump!
Themed restaurant and bar. Expensive and crowded at sunset $2200/£14 is for two red stripe and a non alcoholic cocktail. Our last visit was over 10 years ago and in that time the place has been completely overhauled. There is a good parking area and a band plays at sunset. We arrived after sunset and so missed the band and no one was diving into the sea at that time. So one drink and then we left
Thee place to go to watch the Jamaican sunset! Went in December on a Transat excursion from our resort. A bargain for $28 bucks. Do it! The bar itself is multi levelled with an on site souvenir store. The entertainment on stage was engaging and interactive, encouraging audience dance participation. Many enjoyed the on site wading pool. Several signed up for the cliff diving experience. Not for me. Not even if there was a free day. Quite a drop. Great for those not afraid of heights..or dying! Happy to be the big chicken who sat up top videotaping. The place was packed solid with hundreds of people dancing, swimming, diving and pedestal high divingoh yes..for those who say pshaw to measley cliff diving and want to climb even higher..yup..you can do that! The most remarkable thing ..the sun sets at 5:35pm and by 5:45 it was almost empty. Would do it again in a heartbeat!
Beautiful. Thrilling. Picturesque. Pool, cliff diving. Must see bird man dive from the highest point. Wow! Great music, great food, plenty to drink. Drink plenty of water, can get very hot. Most spectacular sunset. Arrive early for sunset activities. Parking lot gets filled up quickly. A must see if you visit Negril.
Great visit. Great location. Service could be better in the dining room n the menu is way too expensive so they should at least refill pops for free. They didn't even want to change a drink if if not good
Beautiful place. The servers are really nice here and we were served by a man named Courtney. The ambiance is nice and the live band started to play until it rained. The food is really good here as well; no complaints whatsoever. I wish we jumped off the cliff but we didn’t get to because it started raining there’s always a next time. In this photo I believe it was the carribean lobster linguine and it was delicious!
BEWARE - Ricks Cafe specifically the diving is very dangerous and even life threatening! My husband and I visited this place and the first thing we did was the cliff diving. Suffice it to say that was the worst mistake of my life. The lifeguard told me to plant my left foot and jump off with my right. When I hit the water from 35 feet I landed on my back and tailbone area. I knew immediately there was something wrong. No staff helped me and if it wasn’t for my husband helping out of the water I’m not sure what would have happened to me. There are NO Emergency services on site! We had to beg a shirt driver to get me back to Sandals. I sustained compression fractures of my back (requiring a 3 level fusion) and also a displaced tailbone fracture. Long story short, $12,000 later (even though I have insurance - Jamaica makes you pay everything up front or no care) and 4 days in the Jamaica hospital we painstakingly made our way back to the States. I spoke with Ricks COO and he didn’t do anything. He told me they have no liability insurance. The 35 foot jump needs to be discontinued! People have died jumping from it. Unfortunately I wasn’t aware of this until much later. Yes, they have signs with warnings but with all the people being injured or those who have died from jumping off the 35 ft jump, Ricks should stop letting it be used period, warning or not. This was life changing for us. I will never be the same again. I get Ricks doesn’t care so I’m posting this in hopes that it saves anyone else from going through what we did.
Wow. This place was packed. Went to see the sunset but it got overcast as it got closest to the time. Entertainment great. The guy that dives don't remember his name is very brave. Great diver. Food excellent. Staff were just awesome and very attentive. Always ensure that you are satisfied. I'll keep going back.
Rick's Cafe lived up to the hype from entertainment to food. They had the daring customers jumping of the cliff. The DJ that played all genres of music. The drinks were tasty. The food was great! The portions are big depending on what you order. We had a great day at the cafe. Best of all, we watched the sun set. The was such a humbling experience. Please go, you will not regret it.
Great fun place, albeit packed at times. Best time is late afternoon to catch sunset.
Take a jump off cliffs but at own risk, read signs and listen to guides.
A "must do once" venue, most hotels offer this trip
Top 10 bar in the world? Not so sure. What makes Rick's great is the location, the views and the cliffs. The staff were not very friendly. The service was slow and the prices were inflated, however, the live music was very good. We took a catamaran there and jumped off the 35ft cliff which was awesome. If nothing else you should go for the views and the experience. FYI if you decide to jump the cliff make sure you are perfectly straight like a pencil when you hit the water, 35 ft drop into the water the wrong way can really hurt. It's been 2 weeks and my tailbone is still sore.
Spider is quite an athlete, jumping in the beautiful water from a high perch, climbing up the cliff face and then jumping in again from a hand stand. Pretty aggressive on the tipping. Gift shop could have more variety. Outdoor eating is an option it seems, but didn't see anyone doing so. Part of a cruise excursion.
Had a great time at this spot! I did not get a chance to eat but the atmosphere was amazing. Watching the cliff dives was very fun. There's even a pool up top if you're not even into diving but need to get away from the heat. It's very much a fun and party atmosphere! Definitely would like to return and try the food!
This place is a massive tourist trap to put it simply. The sunset is quite impressive and the cliff divers are fun to watch, but otherwise there is nothing about this place that would make me want to visit again.
I've seen it on other reviews and mine is pretty much the same. The drinks are massively overpriced, the staff don't really care and are rude, the food is not great and overpriced and the crowds are insane. If you can get a table a few hours before sunset, hold it as it will be taken soon after that. At sunset, everyone crowds to the edge of the bar with their cameras out whilst the DJ yells "THERE IT GOES! IT'S GOING DOWN!" over the PA (we can see it, cheers for the help though) and the moment the sun is gone, there's a rush for the exit as no one wants to stay after that.
Honestly, unless you're desperate for expensive drinks and poor service, you can see a sunset in better places on Jamaica, don't bother going here. The extra star is for the divers and the view to the sunset, although the lighthouse a short way up the road looked like a better option after I'd noticed it.
Very fun place with beautiful views. The cliff jumping is fun to watch and if you're willing, you can take the plunge as well. We didn't eat so I don't know about the food, but the drinks were delicious. The staff isn't exactly friendly and the pricing is astronomical. If you're looking to drink more than a few, you might need to take out a mortgage. They can get it so they charge it, but at the end if the day, you're in a third world country paying new York prices.
I heard of this location prior to my trip but never knew that it was popular spot where you can go cliff jumping. I was amaze to see this and no, I didn't attempt because I can't swim, unfortunately :( But the atmosphere was crazy as I understand now that this is the ultimate meet spot on this side of the island. The food was incredible and the music was amazing! I definitely recommend coming here when vacationing in Jamaica. You won't be disappointed
Rick's Café is not just a restaurant; it also has its own little gift shop. Besides the bvious main attraction (the sunset), there were many spectators who watched others dive into the ocean from a ~10m cliff (a nice attraction for adrenaline junkies, perhaps?)
Before the sunset it's definitely crowded, tables are hard to get, don't expect to find tables 30min before the sunset (we didn't. At least, not in the first attempt. But if you still want to try the somewhat pricey food, just wait after the sunset and the masses will be gone in a few moments. The service was good, and so was the food and the live music. As for the sunset, it was just as beautiful and stunning as anywhere in Jamaica!
This place completely rocks around 12pm you start seeing the buses with all the tourists coming in. You get live music, bunch of bars. two or three pools then there's an area we can jump off a cliff. looks amazing in front you can see a bunch of boats that just fondling to see people jump. It looks great this is a must go place if you come to Jamaica.
This place has nice views for watching the sunset and the cliff divers jumping off the highest platform. There was a good reggae band playing while we visited.
It's a tourist trap though, drinks/food are pricey, the staff are rude, if you pay in USD expect them to give you a lot less change due to the conversion rate they use.
Before sunset the place gets absolutely packed, you can barely walk around, and it's hard watching the sunset and the divers with so many people around and in front of you. Definitely not chill or relaxing.
Would not recommend.
I can't go to Jamaica without driving a scooter up to Ricks Cafe. The views, the vibe and the local talent are amazing. Something any traveler would love to be a part of. The owner has upgraded and added on to this Negril gem. It's so beautiful now and definitely worth a visit. The local divers are incredibly impressive. Be careful if you try to make the highest jump yourself. It's not as easy or as soft a landing as they make it seem
They are professionals!
Great place to go to for jumping off the cliff into the water. They have both a high and a low jumping platform. Must be a good swimmer to do this, however, as no life jackets are provided to assist people who do the jumps. They do have a life guard though. Food was good, had no complaints about it although the service was a tad slower than I would of liked. Can pay in US currency here along with Jamaican money.
