I swear this place used to be bigger.
To be fair, I was there mid week, off season, in the rain - but I THOUGHT I remembered: more, bigger, bustling.
Every stall had the same thing - the only difference was the bargaining.
My local host told me: pay 80% of what they start at in price. I got down to about 50% when I quit and just bought.
But.it was ..unimpressive.

Great place to buy good quality meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. Also a couple of bars to buy some meals in the Italian style and sit down and eat. Or if just having a wander around and seeing a bit of Italian life you will not be disappointed.

You can eat yourself through the best Italian dishes. Around 6pm they start playing chilled music. You can drink your wine and enjoy the atmosphere.

A MUST see place to visit. Perfect for buying groceries for your dinner if eating in. First time I visit a market that has beef, chicken, pork, and lots of fresh fish and there is NO bad smell which means all is very fresh and clean. The fresh market is on the first floor. The second floor is a variety of restaurants. Everything you can possibly think of eating and drinking is here! A must try is the Truffle Pasta! OMG delicious! Enjoy your visit!

Great place to wander around, have lunch, and experience Italian grocery shopping first hand. While busier due to the tourists it still feels authentically local. Definitely watch your pockets due to the tight crowds particularly in the street vendor areas by the entrances.

One of the finest food halls and markets in Italy. You can spend quite a while just looking around and taking food porn pictures, but of course, you should be eating your way through it. There is a large selection of foods to sample, and they are all made fresh on site. If you're visiting Florence, you definitely need to set aside one afternoon to visit.

Went here after our tour of Florence with my students on a one day trip. Most of my students wanted a chance to shop in the market, so they were excited to be here. There are dozens and dozens of stands all selling a variation on a theme, each looking to bring you in to their stand, or store behind, and sell you a leather good of some sort. Many of theme sell the exact same product, so if you are a bargain shopper, take your time to get a few prices, and then prepare to bargain your way to the price you want. If you are short on time, you can just visit a couple, as much of the products you find are similar. Leather pursues, wallets and belts are the big ticket items on the street.
My students were a little shocked at how handsy and inappropriate the stall owners were with them (at least compared to what they were use to in Canada). Not sure if that is the usual case, but it was our experience the day we were there. They are also very pushy. So if you don't like to bargain or deal with pushy sales people, this is probably not the experience for you. If you enjoy a good bargain, or the challenge of getting one, you may enjoy it more.
When we returned to Rome that evening we actually found many of the exact same products available in their leather shops, for similar prices, without the bartering or pushy sales. So we saw less unique products than expected. But overall, still enjoyed the experience (I really enjoy European markets, so I'm still glad we went).response / report this review -

If you are a budget traveler this is a great place for a snack. The outdoor vendors are very pushy and touristy. But inside they are warm and welcoming and will talk with you about their products and give samples (stay and try them all for a great snack). Do the full loop before you buy as the quality and prices varies quite a bit.

Go in the big building to get a bite to eat or shop around the streets with the street vendors. For the items that everyone has, you can bargain. If you find something that no one else has, we found the prices are reasonable, but they won't haggle. The food court is actually pretty nice and the food is high end.
