The setting for this restaurant is stunning, probably the best location they could possibly have. However the food was fairly disappointing for the price. We paid €300 for 2 people to have 3 courses (no alcohol) and would expect high quality food with superb service. Sadly the food was not at the level to justify the price and the service was lacking. I would recommend visiting this restaurant simply to appreciate the atmosphere and views, but would be prepared to pay quite a bit for mediocre food.
Palazzese Grotta is ranked as #1 most romantic restaurant in the world and it really does live up to that rating. The atmosphere is beautiful and so charming. It has a great vibe to it with the sound of the saxophone to the ocean waves, it is set up for an unforgettable evening.
The food is not the greatest. It is very average and nothing special. There is a minimum order of 2 dishes per person. Luckily we knew this so we already ate and drank before we came to the restaurant but all other tables around us were hungry and very unsatisfied with the food considering the expensiveness of the dishes.
I do recommend this restaurant for the atmosphere as I think it should be in everyone's bucket list cause of its gorgeous location.
We arrived for the 12:30pm seating and found ourselves part of a small group. The sound of the waves lapping against the rocks as we browsed the menu was like music to my ears. The food was of a high standard, we had the smaller degustation on the menu. For a degustation we both found the portions a little on the large side and by the time we got to the last course we were extremely full.
The wait staff were impeccable and the experience magic. I would love to go back at night.
Food is terrible. Service is bad. Do not expect fine dining, this is so far from a world class experience it's a joke!
Personal reviews are open to interpretation but take note that this restaurant is NOT Michelin star rated and NOT on this worlds best list. It's only the unique setting that tempts 1 time tourist diners to try it, hence its survival. You will be disappointed!
Best thing about this restaurant was the view outside but even that is actually better from the streets above. You won't see sunset given the angle. The waiters are rushed and avoid you. The food was disgracefully bad. Rubbery squid that I had to spit out. Laughable "almond crusted tuna tartare" that literally had a few flakes stuck to an overcooked lump of fish. Average pastas that are of standard for the area. Nothing special at all. Topped off by the rudest manager I have ever encountered. Honestly the worst restaurant experience of my life.
Prepare for spectacular views and a romantic atmosphere but bring your wallet. A fantastic experience where you are made to feel special. Starting with a champagne reception then taken down to your table within the cave overlooking the Adriatic. The food is delicious but top notch dining and view comes at a price. A main, soft drink and dessert came to €100. As a one off, or if you are well off, definitely worth it Once seated there is no rush to complete your meal so you can sample the surroundings for as long as you like. Come early to enjoy the surrounding town and also get parking. The streets around the hotel are restricted and get busy later on. There are two bars in the same area as hotel but a shirt stroll to many more. Having returned in 2017 there is a large renovation going on and I am unsure if this will affect the restaurant.
Let me start by saying I was very excited to eat here. I was severely disappointed. They count on the view to lure people in, and it didn't disappoint but unfortunately because of that view they feel they can give mediocre service and food. We were told, after we began ordering, that the whole table had to order the tasting menu or no one at all could get it. Fine. Next try on ordering and we were then told that everyone had to order at least 2 courses. Fine. We all ordered our 2 courses. Food was brought out and it was our worst meal in Italy thus far. 2 hours later our wine and water glasses empty we hadn't been asked how the meal was or if we would like a refill. I tried to speak to the manager/host at the front, I believe his name was Giuseppe and was told that "this wasn't the time or place" to bring up their lack of service. He then proceeded to speak in Italian to the server about me in a derogatory and loud tone with out ever looking me in the eye or apologizing for the lack of service. The sheer disrespect and disregard for a paying customer was appalling. This restaurant counts on tourists and couldn't care less if they make you happy as they assume you will never be back anyway. There are so many amazing restaurants in Italy that appreciate their customers. Please don't waste your time of money at this one. You'll also notice that this restaurant never responds on here or trip advisor. It's because they don't care even remotely and that should tell you all you need to know.
Amazing place. Like something out of a James Bond film. We had the seven course taster menu & wine accompaniment. Overall great wine, food was good but not amazing. It is overpriced but you are paying for the location! Note, you need to book 1-2 months in advance.
Overpriced. Staff need extra training. Exotic ambiance.
Great view for a meal, which you definitely pay for the EXPERIENCE rather than the food. We had a group of 5, with a table right up against the railing for a stunning view of the ocean for dinner. Make sure you have a reservation to get a good spot! Staff is great, they had our bottle of wine to us before we even finished ordering our food. We each got a different starter & main dish, then each shared a bite with each of us so we had our own tastings menu for a fraction of the cost!
The place is wonderful, very romantic. if you made reservations make sure you arrive early to find a parking spot. it is very difficult to find a place to park the food is good, not great, the average price per person is 80 euros, including desert and a good wine, we were in 4 people. Best time to go is around 8PM because there is still day light and you can see the view of the sea and soon after it is night, then the place becomes very romantic. do you want to impress a girl or get some points with your wife? Take her there!!!! It is a experience of a life time.
