Cosy library and information center. Tasty coffee and tee.
What a lovely little book store/cafe/museum/theater? Seriously, this was a cozy place, friendly staff, and fantastic soup.
Informative and well-presented exhibits. But at about $25 a ticket, I kept expecting a Chagall or Rauschenberg to surprise me around the corner.
People were nice and spoke English
Very friendly place to stop in, ask directions, and get snack and/or refreshments.
Had a great conversation with one of the clerks at the coffee counter which taught me a lot about the town, the region and Iceland as a whole. There is a slide show running in the back which was put together by a resident which I recommend seeing. While the slides contained some English spelling errors (Vs and Ws reversed, endearingly; lots of talk about the Willage), I could hardly fault it for that. What I saw in it was the story of a plucky little community's struggle to grow, make a living in the far cold north, adjust to changing times, care for its people, weather the financial collapse, resist population outflow and be the best that it can be. I really admire them for it, they've triumphed in making this little town a good thing and it is full of life.
Very useful toilet stop before visiting Kirkjufell waterfall after a long drive on gravel roads from the north! There is a mobile van selling fish & chips at the parking.
Nice tourist information, history corner, library, café and free toilets!!!
Such a great place to learn about Icelandic history fun display of costumes to try after the visit!
Whatever you need in town, this is the place to find it. It has a small restaurant offering a delicious burger and nice vegan options. There's also a library and a museum as well as a little souvenir store here.
Everything you need in one place. It has a museum, tourist information, child's play and learning area. Good stop to stretch your legs.
Food is overpriced and not very good. Coffee was ok. Cosy but let down by quality of food for the cost
The Emil cafe is very friendly. It has great (but limited) lunch menu and sweets (the apple cake with cream on the side was perfect). Next door (in the same entrance ) is a tourist information center that has a friendly staff and good information on nearby hiking trails.
Emil Café is super sweet with a great selection of food (had a delicious spicy curry soup and a gluten-free chocolate cake)! They even host a tiny museum about Icelandic fishing and antique toys. Oh, and there's also a library.
