Cute little light house with an easily accessible rocky beach and a great view of Reykjavik across the channel. Attendant at the reception building was super friendly and told us about a bunch of things to see in west Iceland

What a lovely spot. The guide books dismiss Akranes but I thought it was a really nice town and the lighthouse was well worth a visit to break the journey to the airport. Legs ached after climbing to the top but it was a great view. The host Hilmar was a pleasure to talk to. Don't miss the lovely beach through a gap in the wall, a lovely sun trap and we found a bag full of sea glass for our collection.

Nice visit. You'll need to pay to access the top of the light house. There's a restroom at the visitor center.

We were staying in Reykjavik so the drive here in itself was fascinating. We arrived around sunset and couldn't have asked for a better time to take pictures. Definitely worth the drive!

The only lighthouse in Iceland that you can climb. Great acoustics for singing your way up the staircase.

Worth checking out if you are in the area. Some great views and on a clear day you can easily see Reykjavík.

Great lighthouse not far away from the town. Good place to shoot Norther lights or stars.

Beautiful, make sure to stop in at the cabin before and talk to the caretaker, he'll tell you all the facts and tips about it, paying the small price to go up to the top of the lighthouse is so worth it for the view! I ended up visiting 3 times over the course of my stay. So beautiful.

We loved our stay in Iceland and the Akranes Lighthouses were a highlight, because we met a very friendly man who is the host at the Lighthouse. He told us all about the area, explained that they frequently have musicians in the Lighthouse (there was a musician there when we visited), and told us about the history of the light. He was very nice!

A nice little stop off the main highway on your way out to the peninsula. Great views from the top all around. Definitely worth the detour. Today, we were treated to two young women singing and playing the guitar and clarinet insid the lighthouse :)

I didn't get a chance to see it because a guy (from the visitor center?) Came up and banged on our car window as we pulled up to the marked parking lot right in front of the light house and told us we could not park there but needed to move our car to on front schetchy warehouse eat down the road with a business name printed on it. Made absolutely no sense so we just left. So frustrating!

Lighthouse is small and nothing in the city around. Area is beautiful but then again most of iceland is. Will cost 10000 kronor coming thru the tunnel one way to get here.

Impressive view from lighthouse. Nice staff. Few tourists. I truly recommend this place. A quick stop just off Route 1. Kitsch spot with stones painted with national flags.

Worth the detour on way to Reykjavik. We stopped on the way to the city after driving around all of Iceland. There was a tunnel where we had to pay a toll before it so have a credit card ready. Free to go up the new lighthouse and great view of the old lighthouse, coast, mountains, and town

Our AirBnB host suggested we go here for the Northern Lightsand we had an amazing show that night. If you're in Akranes for the night, definitely swing by here.

It's a nice little lighthouse, inside the acoustics are fantastic (if you're dying to test out your singing voice outside the shower). Good views over the harbour.

Just a word of warning, if you're driving over from Reykjavík especially, there's a toll on the tunnel both ways.

Akranes was a fantastic little town to see, topped of by a visit to the lighthouse with stunning views and some lovely historic evidence on show. Well worth a trip to see it. My wife and I loved it here.
