On our return from Westman Islands on August 2 at 18:45, the ferry almost collided with a container ship that was approaching from the right. Container ship had right of way but the ferry captain either was not paying attention or didn't do his job/didn't know the rules. Everyone was staring in awe watching both ships approaching each other full speed on a collision course and neither ship was turning away or slowing down. Last minute container ship had to turn right and ferry slow down rapidly and our bow passed about 2-3 meters from the container sheep. Unbelievable. We almost lost our lives because the captain was an idiot. Very scary.

Strange place, after driving a few km from Road#1 you get to a ferry terminal, no more at sight. Be aware of timetable in advance because there are few services through the day. You should get there about 15 min ahead of sailing time. Big comfy ferry with lots of seats, sofas and promenade deck. Amazing view during trip. We sailed in good weather but ship rocked quite a bit so it can be bumpy in rough sea. Not expensive fee for Iceland standard. I highly recommend to visit Westman islands it if you have a day to spare in your circuit.

Good service, on-time departure and very reasonable price to walk on. I would highly recommend taking this ferry and visiting Vestmannaeyjar. It was a highlight of our two weeks in Iceland!

Unreliable terminal for tourists who don't know the languages and can't read the notices, but if you can catch the boat, it's a great ride out to the island. The sea can be rough, but there are great views of the nearby islands and seeing the mainland's snowy mountains from a distance is a real treat. Keep an eye out for puffins, razorbills, mures and fulmars! It's a great place to find pelagic birds.

Absolute joke. No notification that the ferry was moved / cancelled, no one answered the phone when we called to reschedule and no one has come back to my message to arrange a refund. Completely ruined part of our holiday as we were unable to go to Vestmannaeyjar and cost us about £200 in extra hotel fees. Avoid if at all possible.

Very unhappy with this ferry service. They need to implement a procedure for when ferries get cancelled. We drove an hour and 45 minutes only to find out it was cancelled. Though we knew this may happen there should be something in place (email system) to warm people before they drive. Then they can't even provide a refund. Not impressed.
