We hiked the Kristínartindar in summer 2017 and it was amazing. Some pretty steep sections but most of the time easily dueable and such beautiful views!

Such a great hike, marvelous landscape however bear in mind that it's not for completely beginners!

There's a ~15km round trip hike from Skaftafell visitor centre (pick up a map for 350kr there) through this peak. The ascent is not hard and doesn't require climbing or ropes. The terrain is very rocky during the whole hike, so hard hiking shoes are recommended.

I hiked up Kristínartindar in July. There was no snow, and the approach from the Skaftafell Visitors Center was pretty straightforward. Some steep sections but nothing dangerous. However, the last 500m is treacherous! Steep, with breaking rock, poor footing, and long potential falls. Definitely class 2 (arguably class 3 when windy), but if you go slow it is very doable. The view is so worth it!
