Did read about a lot of negative reviews about Geysir car rental online after I booked my car with them. Being the first time I was renting a car, I was scared about what’s going to happen. It was an amazing experience with them without any problem. They even permitted me to drop off the car in the city, instead of the airport location. Yes they do hold the deposit for their rental which is high, but that’s the case with almost all car rentals in Iceland. I guess some people who misuse the cars have the issues with them. But that’s in few cases. Overall they were perfect and I highly recommend them.
Geysir is a great company to rent from. The shuttle ride from the airport to the store is quick and easy, but walking there is convenient too if you're not carrying much luggage.
We rented the car two weeks in advance. The car we received was clean and capable. We picked up and dropped off the car before 7am, and both times the staff were prepared and friendly. They also provided coffee and tea in the lobby.
Overall it was a wonderful experience and an awesome way to see Iceland for a short amount of time.
Decent car rental support right beside the airport. They have a wide selection of 4 wheel drive vehicles that are moderately priced. The staff spoke English so the were no issues with communication. They were very friendly as well. However, if you plan on renting a cat here and dealing the additional insurance make certain you have the mandatory money available on your charge card for the hold they will place. It was be approximately $3,800 US
Absolutely brilliant. Family of 4, never flown before, never hired a car before, plane delayed 4 hours, arrived at Geysir very late in the night. Shuttle bus to Geysir easy. Pick up hassle free, car ideal for our 3 day trip. Drop off took minutes, shuttle bus to terminal tracked on TV in Geysir offices so you know when to head outside to pick up bus, ( very cold outside at 4am in morning). Staff great. Deposit returned within 2 days. Recommended.
I rented a Suburu Forester 4x4 automatic with Geysir in March 2018. My experience was great. I had read a lot of reviews on different rental car companies in Iceland and Geysir had pretty good reviews in general. They were friendly and helpful. The car was great and had no issues. I would definitely recommend a 4x4, even in the summer. Once you get outside of Reykjavik and off the Ring road, there are a lot of areas with gravel roads. The 4x4 SUV was great for those situations. I was traveling by myself and away from crowds in many instances, so having a very reliable car was important to me. Both the car and the company performed quite well.
As it was my first time ever renting a car, I was a bit nervous. The online reservation/payment process was easy and painless. When I picked up my vehicle, I was informed that they had upgraded me for free because I had booked so far ahead. They also were able to explain to me how the push button start works, as I had not ever used one before. When I returned the car, the staff were able to assist me with a parking ticket I had received during my stay; I couldn't read the ticket and was clueless! I had also heard that some other rental companies like to pretend that you created damages on the vehicle and charge you for them, but that didn't happen to me with Geysir! Thank you very much for a painless renting experience!
Not used to renting cars so nervous of any complications. Reception an easy walk from airport so no need to stand in queue waiting for the shuttle. Staff very helpful and friendly; good coffee on tap too! No pressure to buy anything more than I had selected and no unnecessary hassles on returning the vehicle, all of which took just minutes. Therefore, no hesitation in recommending Geysir and would definitely use them again.
The people there are super friendly and won’t try to sell you on anything you don’t want to add to your rental. My husband and I rented a Jeep Wrangler 4door. During that time we had 3 snow storms and had the ability to drive in the snow and ice with no problem at all. The next time we go to Iceland, we’ll definitely be renting from Geysir again! I highly recommend!
I've rented the car with Geysir recently. I've asked couple of questions though email before renting, all of them answered in a timely manner. When arrived at the pick up location, staff was super friendly, explained the driving rules in Iceland, warned about speed tickets/cameras and about the weather. There was no problem with the car during the rent. Drop off went smooth, different staff, not so talkative/friendly, but overall experience is really nice.
Our experience at this car rental company was fine. The staff were not very friendly as the other reviews suggest maybe it is just them. Our booking said Hyundai (or similar) and we got a Toyota Aygo. Fail to see how this is similar however after it got us through some bad weather I cannot fault it now just be careful what type of vehicle you are booking. We returned the vehicle and had no problems with any accusations of dent or anything, it was a very smooth handing over. I would definitely recommend looking at the sheet they give you with prior damage noted and make sure you look carefully at any not noted. I did this and maybe this is why the hand over was good as they had seen I had gone over it well. Just use your common sense there. Good prices compared to others and includes a short bus transfer to their office which is good.
Rented a car from this company in the summer of 2017. Absolutely terrible service - customer service was non-existent! Also they triple charged my credit card and it took months to resolve with the credit car company. I'm amazed at the good reviews - something fishy about that. While I was picking up and dropping off the car there were people complaining of issues with credit card charges - should have been a sign of things to come!
Wish there was a zero star option.
Great service until we returned the car. Got a door ding where we parked the night before we left. The ding is a very small scratch(smaller than 1 cm which in the rental contract says they will dismiss) yet they immediately charged our CC $2200!!!?? This is completely egregious and unless refunded very soon I will make sure everyone I hears about it and doesn’t rent from them. Despicable. Will update as we are getting the CC company and more involved.
Really easy transfer bus, (but it’s only a 5 min walk across a car park)
Easy pick up and drop off. It’s expensive but they all are so that’s Iceland! The insurance is worth taking out, so do!
We hired a Jeep Wrangler which was perfect for 2 but not more. We spent loads off time off road on the F roads - loads of fun and the jeep never broke a sweat. Geysir seemed like the perfect mix of budget and reputable. You get what you pay for and there are some right dodgy companies looking around at other reviews.
Rented with Geysir after previously having issues with Thrifty.
Geysir were great, we ordered an Economy Automatic and we got a free upgrade from a small Hyundai i10 to a lovely Toyota Avensis.
Had no issues with Geysir and couldn't recommend them enough.
Ive booked with them again in February.
I orginally booked with them in May 2017
We had a good experience with Geysir. We booked them after I did a lot of comparison shopping - Geysir was cheaper so we were able to add a second driver and still pay less than with any other company, and they had many positive reviews compared to others. Our car was ready for us when we arrived exactly as we had booked it. The only issue we had was that the car had a windshield crack in it, which made us nervous, but were told it was safe to drive. The staff we walked to about the crack was very friendly and helpful, and it ended up not causing us any issues. Dropping off the car was straightforward and the staff then was also very nice. I'd advise leaving lots of time to pick up and drop off the car as it could take a while depending on the time of day. Overall, I'm very happy we went with Geysir.
Rented a car for 5 days. The car had less than 20000 km on the clock and everything was fine. The service picking up and then returning at 4:00 in the morning was good. Would use again
Rented a car without any additional insurance (did that through a separate company). No hassle, simple process with digital delivery of the contract. They don't charge you for small scratches and chips incurred during your rental period, which is nice. They seemed fair and when we returned the car we got a swift "thumbs up" that everything was in order.
Pleasant experience, would rent again.
Terrible staff - Unethical business practices. I arrived late one evening to store my touring bicycle. I had done research on their website and understood what the prices were. The lady staff member was really rude, and lacked any sense of customer service. When she finally quoted me the price to store my bike for 10 days, it was almost double what the website stated. I pointed that out to her, and she couldn't have cared any less. She said that the prices had gone up. I asked when. She said today. I pointed out that the website still quoted the old prices, and asked nicely if she could honour that price. Nope. I said it wasn't fair that they advertised one price on their website, and then changed the price in store. She didn't care. I told her what I thought of the terrible customer service at this location. She told me that it is the price, and if I don't like it, I can go somewhere else. Basically, it was take it, or "F" off.
I had a great experience with Geysir. The car rental was easy to book online prior to my trip. Once arrived in Iceland, I was able to pick up (and later drop off) the car just beside the airport. Their office seems to be open 24/7, because I both arrived and left very early in the morning. The car it's self was clean and in great condition, and caused me no problems during my trip.
I booked an automatic car 3 months ago for 1 day in July 7,2017 with Geysir because I wanted to pick up a car in the city center and return at KEF airport, and only Geysir rental car was allowed for one day rental in July peak season. It's city location was very easy to find, the basement of Opera House, and the staffs were pleasant and helpful in both places. They upgraded our car to a Land cruiser without any further charge and both parties inspected before driving . The car didn't have any problem and it turned out a big car was better for driving in hilly and rainy roads. Since no car rental companies in Iceland offered full coverage like in USA, I thought premium insurance coverage by Geysir was most reasonable. In my opinion, purchasing good rental car insurance is must because roads and weather condition are unpredictable and cars are very vulnerable.
Well, they try to rip us off basically. We had to catch a flight and they wanted to charge us - 1. 000 000!!!! Krona for a sand damage (we have not driven in sand or a sand storm or anything) apparently, this happens in the south of Iceland a lot. I just cannot believe this since it was quiet down there and full of tourists not having any issues either. We will try to stop the money transfer since we were 'just' able to pay a little bit on the spot, we were able to get home okay. In hintside we just want to cancel the payment. There was no damage. We even cleaned the car properly and couldn't see anything. We have full protection with car rentals. com but since have not done any damagethe lady even got rude and wants us to lie to car rentals - sorry! This is going to be messy and public!! Unbelievable!!! DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!!!!!
Great rental! No problems with the car. Cheap automatics. I suggest getting the wifi instead of the GPS and using google maps for navigation since they are the same price.
Top service with goof last minute free of charge upgrades. Shuttle bus from the terminal stops in front of their office. Good quqlity cars and quite significant early bird discounts.
Their service was excellent. I had no trouble getting and returning my car. There was a snowstorm on the day I was suppose to return the car, which caused me to be a little over an hour late. I called them beforehand and they allowed me to return it late without any charges.
I will say that I liked the Duster that we rented. By rental car standards it was comfortable and roomy. However, I didn't realize until after we drove off the lot that our vehicle had the "service now" wrench icon on the dashboard. Worse yet, the left headlight was blown. This would not have been a problem except two days later the right headlight went out during a blinding snowstorm. Their "roadside assistance" told me that I needed to fix it myself because it would be 7 hours roundtrip for him to fix it. So, out I go back into the snowstorm to drive 25 km to the nearest gas station to fix my rental car's headlights on my own. Their maintanence and roadside assistance departments are obviously lacking. If you are traveling outside of Reykjavik I would pay a little extra to use a reputable company.
