One of the best meals I've had anywhere in the world! Get the Iceland Taster (3 or 5 course); it's a little pricey, but totally worth it. Everything my wife and I had was seasoned, portioned, cooked, and presented flawlessly. Does get busy (we saw lots of people unable to get a table with less than a 40 minute wait time), so you may want to make a reservation. Truly incredible food (go with the Icelandic fare, you won't regret it).

The food was expertly plated and very flavorful, as delicious to eat as it was to look at. If anyone tells you Scandinavian food is bland and boring, the Old Iceland will thoroughly refute it. I had the cod in champagne sauce, and it satified my tastebuds with a wide range of distinct but complementary flavors. It's a very small restaurant, and thus not much staff; do not expect large party accomodations at a single grouped together table, either, as there simply isn't room, though you can request a couple of tables next to each other. I personally do not consider small restaurants a negative. However, like a lot of older European buildings, its entrance is not wheelchair friendly, with a slight step and a doorsill ledge to step over, and then two small steps down into the restaurant proper. (For this reason, a lot of places should not get a full 5 stars in Europe; consider it a 4.5 if you have serious mobility issues. Parking may also be an issue, but I walked, so cannot say for sure.) Beyond that, the atmosphere is indeed relaxed and the food worth every krona/penny.

Newly reopened as a traditional Icelandic restaurant. My family and I made this our last meal prior to our flight back to the states. We managed to sample a large variety of dishes from the menu. The fish and meat soup completely overshadow their simple names by being packed with flavor and hearty portions of fresh ingredients and surrounded by rich and pure broth. The lamb entrée was tender, tasty and cooked to a perfect delicate texture.
We finished our meal with one of their rhubarb Oat Cakes. Not too sweet and definitely not too dry this homemade delight fit the bill as the perfect authentic Icelandic send off (especially since we learned that it was made by the chef's mother herself).

This was our favorite restaurant in Reykjavik! Great prices comparatively, and amazing food!!!! The meat/lamb soup was to die for, the desserts were all great (we liked the raw cake; favorite was the happy marriage cake). The Chai latte was perfect with the cold, windy, icing weather outside. The decor was homey and comfortable with really neat lamps. Can't say enough to praise this little treasure of a restaurant. Mmmmmmmm
