The Golden Circle Tour was a fantastic way to see some of the major highlights within easy day-tripping distance of Reykjavik. Geysir was such a unique area, like a tiny Yellowstone, Gullfoss was absolutely amazing. And Thingvollir, just WOW! You can see where the earth is being ripped apart. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic to answer all of our questions, and additionally offered a lot of local knowledge and history! Super interesting.
All of their tours were great and the guides were fantastic! When we return, will definitely go with them again for more adventures!
Had such a wonderful experience on our Lava Cave tour which I give credit to our guide (I regretfully forget his name), but he was very knowledgeable and gave us so much history of not just the cave but Iceland in the little time we had together. Would really recommend this tour!
Josh was an amazing tour guide. It was my first time in Iceland and Glacial Hiking. I would recommend this company without any hesitation! Thank you for this amazing and unforgettable experience :)
This was an exceptional tour! The experience was even better than the pictures you can find on the website. Perfect length too, had a good amount of time in the water but not to where we got too cold. Our guide made things fun and relaxed. I do wish the swim through the main fissure was slower to allow for pictures. But there were a lot of group needing to file through and the current of the water sets the pace. We got a lot of extra time at the end in the lagoon that had its own parallel fissure to the main one. So in the end it was ample time to capture the experience. Would definitely recommend!
Took the ice cave and glacier tour. This tour is a must do item for anybody visiting Iceland in the winter! The spectacular views and ice cave made the long drive well worth it! Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable making the journey fun and even more memorable!
It is rare that I leave a review but I feel that the experience was above and beyond. Our tour guide (Hilmer) was so kind and genuinely excited to show us and teach us about Iceland. When we were on the glacier hike, our tour guide (Michael) held the hand of one of our tour group members the entire hike because she struggled to keep her balance. I have never seen such gracious and helpful guides. Thank you all so much for allowing my husband and I to experience Iceland safely and for creating such a memorable journey. I would recommend this tour and this company to anyone.
Takk!
We did a four-hour lava tunnel tour at Raufarholshellir. This is the longer and more extreme tour. It goes beyond the paved path and involved some scrambling and crawling through among the rocks. My wife and I ended up on a tour with just us and the guide. We had an amazing time. The guide was a geologist, so he was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We got to go all the way to the back of the tunnel during our tour and explore almost every bit. If you like a more challenging experience for a lava tube, I would highly recommend this one.
Scammed us out of $600. We had a 9am tour that was cancelled due to a massive Blizzard closing all of the highways in Iceland on 02/02. They will not refund us, it is impossible for them to provide the tour and we got completely conflicting information from 3 different representatives, avoid at all costs!
We have pictures of the government road closure notice, and a recording of the phone call. It's unfortunate that we will have to issue a chargeback due to a massive failure in ethics on the part of this terrible company. We will win this chargeback claim and inform as many people as possible
Edit: I have an absolutely insane update. After refusing to refund us we were put on another tour, less than 12 hours before the new tour they completely changed the time of the new tour (by three hours). They offered a refund over the phone under threat of chargeback (name was Anna Marin Kristinsdottir). When we asked to get it in writing before hanging up she said she sent it and what we got was a noncommittal email that just said "please request a refund" we finally got her to send a second email confirming we would get a refund. After hanging up we got a third email saying we would in fact have to make a request for a refund that would have to be approved.
These people are scam artists, do not believe them, they will give you bad information over the phone and then goad you to "prove it" later, they act in bad faith and are dishonest. Please PM me for more information, I will be setting up a website to document their dishonesty in full.
They do not deserve your business, and will probably screw up your tour if you pay them, they only care about getting your money so they can play games with you. They will tell you to file with your travel insurance when they make documented mistakes and miscommunications, and then pocket your money.
For further evidence, here is an excerpt of an email from one of their agents "Helena Rós Tryggvadóttir" confirming that they acknowledge being at fault for providing false information. (you'll notice this isn't mentioned in the response to my review which should be enough to demonstrate their sketchy business practices):
"I do sincerely apologize for the fact that you were unable to meeting point of the tour due to the road closure close to Reykjavík.
I do as well sincerely apologize for the fact that misleading information was given but the 09:00am tour went ahead as scheduled, it was only the 12:15 departure which was delayed by one hour, until 13:15."
Can you really trust one of their guides with your safety when you can't even trust their office workers to be honest?
The tours are fantastic and the guides are superb.
The only caveat is that some tours are operated by third parties and not Extreme Island. They are still good, but are more likely to give confusing pickup information.
But you really can't get better than Extreme Iceland.
We went to a glacier hike tour with this company. It was fun and mostly informative. It's more about learning more about the glaciers and trying out the crampons on ice. We got a really nice guide who was enthusiastic about telling stuff about glaciers, their history, impact and interesting and surprising facts.
Awesome tour company. I did a couple of tours with Extreme Iceland and they did additional photo stops not mentioned in the itinerary. The tour group is small, about 10-14 people, so you get a really good service as well.
I did the 2 day trip of the South Coast with Extreme Iceland. I cannot say enough good things about them! The tour was the highlight of my Iceland trip. Our guide was super knowledgeable and our tour was very well planned out. I felt as if our time was maximized and I was able to see so much more than I would have seen if I had rented a car and driven the South Coast myself.
We had a car and did most things ourselves, but we went with Extreme Iceland for tours of a lava tube cave and a glacier hike. Both guides we had were friendly, and we loved the small group size (capped at 12, but we never had more than 8 people including the guides). The glacier hike on Solheimjokull was one of the best tour experiences I've ever had. The tours we did were affordable, and I think the glacier hike is the best money I've ever spent.
We took the "Golden Circle Complete - Minibus tour" and it was awesome. It was a single mini-bus, no convey of buses or a huge coach, so it was much more personal. We were free to explore every location we visited, and we visited so much more than other tours. We saw every aspect of the Icelandic nature and landscape, while also learning so much about Icelandic culture and way of life.
A MUST for any trip to Iceland!
Full disclosure, my tour was operated by glacier adventures, but I booked through extreme Iceland so I am posting it here as well. I went on an ice caving tour and although the cave itself was beautiful, the experience was not worth half what I paid. First of all, they advertise the tour is 2.5 to 5 hours. Ours was barely 2.5, but only 30 minutes was inside the cave. Secondly, the cave had about 3 other tour groups and at least 100 people in it. They turned a natural wonder into a tourist trap! Thirdly, we weren't allowed to go past the mouth of the cave, because we didn't have headlamps despite the fact that we were explicitly told they were provided. Do yourself a favor and go to mountain excursions instead. We did a glacier walk with them where they took us into an ice cave and let us try ice climbing for almost half the price. A true adventure. Nothing like glacier adventures road side attraction.
I had a great time doing an ice cave tour with them. It was an overnight tour, and our staff and hosts were great. Everyone was knowledgeable, friendly, and seemed genuinely happy to be around us.
We stopped at a few placed I'd been before, plus several I hadn't and we were lucky enough to see and have a chance to photograph the aurora.
Our tour guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. I'm not sure how we would've enjoyed Iceland the way we did without this tour. It is a must!! I would refer everyone that I know to go with this tour company and specifically the South Coast and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon - Two Day tour. Not everyone will realize this until they are there but to experience all of Iceland, there is a lot of driving involved and the roads can get icy and dangerous. The glacier hike was also life changing! You would not be able to do this on your own. So worth it!
