This is an awesome place to photograph. I was in Iceland on a ten day guided photography tour of the Northfjords of Iceland, and this will be one of the coolest destinations of the trip.
Difficult to get to this place with a car, very bad road and slow driving but we were totally in love with Djupavik. It worth to spend some time here and take photos. The old factory is an amazing place!
Fantastic place! You definitely need to try a soup and a cake in the hotel!
Really interesting factory, now turned into a museum. The nearby hotel gives daily tours, and the tour guide tells a fascinating story of how the town grew up around the factory. Also had art exhibitions and concerts.
One of many places you have to see on east side of west fjords.
Amazing place to explore - the road there is not for the feint at heart.
Djúpavík used to be one of the busiest villages in Iceland, but only for a very short period. Located at the Reykjarjförður on the east coast of the Westfjords, it was never an ideal site for a village or a town, but it was worth the try. The story goes back to 1917 when an entrepreneur named Elís Stefánsson decided to build a herring factory in Djúpavík. This tiny Hamlet is an extremely fascinating place. The houses, the history and last but not least the landscape.
Fantastic place for some local history and photos.
