Just a lovely pub/bar with a great pint of Murphy’s.
Plenty of friendly staff with an abundance of history and curiosities on the walls and ceiling with sawdust on the floor.
A cool museum that serves alcohol is what it’s like. Absolutely loved the place.
Huge outdoor area out back with space for the smoker with an outdoor bar too. Was nice and busy when I was there but not too packed.
A must see if you are nearby.

It was the best part of my visit to Athlone.

Pure Irish. Perfect spot for a chat and a nice pint of Guinness. Staff are very friendly and the live bands are great. Overall great little place and loads of craic.

We only stayed here for a minute but we were excited to see the oldest pub! The cider was great and the atmosphere was so inviting. One kind bar tender let us use his phone to make a call too! Try to make it here if you're passing through. No food here though :/

Walking into Sean's you get a sense of its age. On the wall is the proof of its age. Its a small piece of the original wall constructed in 900ad. Makes you wonder about all the great (and not so great) people who have stood on the same ground as you now do. Other than the historic element, Sean's has a great pint and friendly staff. Modern extensions means lots of room out the back and a covered smoking area. Located just a stone's throw from the castle and overlooking the Shannon, it was one of my best memories of Athlone.

Wonderful little bar, you have to stop by if you are in the area! We were there early so the place was pretty empty, the bartender took the time to tell us about the bar, brought out an awesome little guestbook to sign, and offered advice on places to stop as we continued our journey back to Dublin. I've never been anywhere else quite like Sean's, and we will definitely be back if our travels take us back to Ireland.

Lovely Olde world pub. Absolutely packed so we sat out back which was HUGE and comfortable. It has its own bar and also quickly filled up. The band came in and was very loud so we stayed another half hour. I'd recommend this place.

I loved the Irish small pub feel - complete with live music. Crowded with tourists like me, but definitely worth the stop if you are in Athlone.

Best stop we went to in Ireland. It's what I imagined an Irish pub to be. The bartender was extremely friendly and gave us places to see. A must see on any trip to Ireland

The only reason we stopped in Athlone was to see this historic location. It was so worth it. The smell of the fireplace alone was spectacular. Having a pint of Guinness here was a vacation highlight.

If friendliness, a great welcome and ambience are important to you, then this is your pub. The guys who own it are aware of what a treasure they own. The history of the premises is as important to them as making a few bob. Will go again as long as water is wet and the sun rises.
