Was there at on a November Saturday night around 6. Our waitress was welcoming and efficient.Food was fine but once we had eaten our two courses there was a non too subtle effort to get us out the door again. I had barely finished my meal when we had to move table to make room for a larger group.Then the waitress brought our bill even though it wasn't requested. Finally, the guy seating people actually came over to say he wanted our table and so we had to leave at about 7.30. At no stage when we arrived at 6 was it made clear to us that the table would be needed for a second sitting.. We won't be going back again as whole experience was not relaxed.and we felt out night was cut short. There is no area to have a drink after the meal as all areas were for food.

I was really impressed by the service, good value, but above all, charming ambience of Matt the Thresher, to which the pianist contributed especially. I attended for an informal group gathering after the Dublin Marathon, and found the staff very accommodating of our general haggard state! I had a burger, but would definitely return for some seafood next time.

My wife had a birthday and we booked a table. I have no words, just look at the our table on photo. Table was next to tableware (which constantly thundered) and rags. Finally waiter climbed onto the counter next to me and almost put own feet in our plates.
Wife asked not to scandalize and I agreed, but staff even didn't ask why I was sitting with such an evil face.
Forgot to say, the restaurant was half empty. There were many good free tables. So here probably deal with tourists.
PS A large plate of seafood for 60 euros is not worth the money. We did not want to order something else there.

Really wonderful fresh fish restaurant. Weather it be a quick bowl of their delicious chowder or a sit down 3 course fish meal (they do some meat also) you will always enjoy the surroundings and the quality of the food. Prices are a little high for some fresh fish plates but its a case of paying a premium for a premium product.

The food was underwhelming to say the least. I had a tuna steak, which was overcooked and tasted quite old. Unfortunately, I was in a rush so didn't send it back, though, I probably should have since the next day I ended up having stomach problems. My mate had fish and chips and the batter was undercooked on the inside. Would get better quality in Leo Burdocks!

Situated in Dublin's business area among the beautiful Georgian Terraces, Matt the Thresher has one of the most impressive interiors of any restaurant in the country, Victorian splendor in details with a high ceiling giving the place fabulous natural light. It was re-worked many years ago from the old Pembroke Inn.
My family and I popped in at lunchtime before a visit to the newly refurbished National Gallery of Ireland which is a 3 minute walk around the corner. The lunch menu features Ireland's favourite seafood fresh from the market, so the health conscious are well catered for. Their version of Fish and Chips is gorgeous, an easy choice if your not sure about the other types of fish dishes. However there is an option of the excellent Beef Burger. The chips are some of the best you can get, they appear to be fried in nuclear reactor with a dark brown crisp on the outside yet they have a perfectly flourly core. Prices are comparable to any lunch menu in the city. Staff were very pleasant, efficient and the wait was minimal. Highly recommended, this is now one of my first stops in Dublin.

I think the food is very good here but expensive. 2 main courses set us back €55 - no wine or anything else. The food was very good but it felt steep. I like the ambience and flavours all the same.

The food was good and I think the place looked great! The service however wasn't what I expected of it. It took a while before we were welcomed and got our table. We also got our wine 15 minutes after we arrived and moreover, they forgot to bring our menu's.
If the service would have been better I think it would be a great place.

One of my very favourite places in Dublin. I bring lots a friends and family that are visiting over to this place for lunch, often slightly later in the afternoon. Great atmosphere, great staff. Their Chowder is absolutely fantastic. Tip: Get the small chowder and a portion of Parmesan Truffle fries (The fires are not on the lunch menu, but they will happily do them for you). That is plenty for lunch. They have fresh fish every day, and even if I don't like Oysters, I hear they are good.

Outstanding seafood in the heart of Dublin. Be sure to order whatever they offer as their fresh catch of the day. I had the Mahi and it was the most memorable 8 bites of fish I've ever eaten.

Friendly, attentive service. Sit at the huge bar or enjoy the view from the loft.

Good quality seafood menu that offers all the usual fish-centric gastropub fare. A little pricey but lovely surroundings. The one thing I wished was that they had more of an adventurous menu. But the clientele that come here (politicians, business people) obviously don't want that - Which is Ireland all over really.
