Good place, however if you decide to camp, you can't have a fire on the ground so bring a portable barbeque or fire stand.
Just a rudest man!
Rang earlier to check for spaces, was told there is no bookings, we can just come by. Myself and 2 kids got ready, packed and drove from Galway just to hear "we're fully booked" -same old guy i talked to earlier. Instead of any smile or pleasantries he asks: "do you always bring coffee to a caffe?" -i looked around, no sign of a coffee shop, the sign outside says reception, I actually apologised and explained i got the cup in a garage on the way and hadnt time to drink it but he just gave me his sass. Thats nothing though, my 12 year old son asked most politely is there a toilet he could use, the guy turned onto a door behind him then looked back at my son and said "no, its locked".
At that point I called he had us preparing then driving an hour and half saying theres space just to say the he's fully booked when we got there, no smile or appology and wouldnt even let a child use a toilet -pure rude. We left outside and i looked on the phone to find other places around, didnt even get to load the page, the old guy comes out and asks to leave out the gate - I say we're looking for a place to go, my 8 year old girl starts crying, and the guy keeps on we need to go because this is not a public car park.
And then some. He advised us, as we were leaving, to go to Lough Owell saying "they" will probably have places there. Only aftrr i drove away and foud internet reception i found there isnt any camping sites around Lough Owell.
Wouldnt recommend the place to anyone!
We ended up in Lough Derravaragh Caravan and boat gire about 15 miles away -beautiful and pleasent, full of nice people.
This was our first camping trip so we wouldn't have any experience of camping or campsites before this one to Lough Ennell. Location is beautiful on the banks of Lough Ennell, located a few km's from Mullingar. The campsite to us was very nice. We met Geraldine on arrival and she looked after us well, giving us details of camp layout and where to pitch etc. They have a nice Cafe on site plus a stock of grocery items and camping essentials if needed. We asked for electrical hookup and there were ample pitches available with hookup plus close proximity to water taps. Very nice showers on site at €1 for a good long hot shower. Area available for wash up of dishes plus laundry if needed. Toilets were clean and well stocked with soap and toilet roll. Floor is a little dated in toilets but from chatting to Enda it is on their "To do List". The site looks well kept and well maintained with works on going to improve hard pitches for campervans and so while we were there. There is a very well kept, equipped and spacious children's playground on site which our two loved. What stood out for me on one of the nights for me was the service that they gave to a couple of campers from France on a motorbike who arrived very late on a terrible rainy night. It was really late but one of the owners either Eammon or Enda assisted the couple in pitching their tent on that awful night and they came back the following morning to make sure they were ok for everything also. That to me was really good to see.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay the park ticked all our boxes in terms of camping needs plus we got some great stories and advice of Eammon and Enda. Only issue I would have with the site Is that they don't accept credit cards/ debit cards. We will return again in the future when the weather is a little nicer hopefully.
Lovely place .Little camping village .Lakeside beautifully situated. Big plus that lake is very shallow and safe for kids , and playground is fantastic maintained. There's no kitchen area provided however other facilities kept to a good standard .Very strict checking out times policy.Handy shop and fast food on site.
Love Lough Ennell. The public toilets at the car park should really be updated, not anything to do with the caravan Park I know but they are shocking for the 21st century and a beautiful amenity like the lakes and the parklands.
Our experience was a very positive one. The owners were more than helpful to us, giving us advice on the new greenway cycle track and canal side cycleway. The lady in the reception was only too happy to assist in anything. The toilet block needs a bit of TLC as previously reviewed, but don't let that stop you visiting as it is very functional. Eamon is for sure a grand character. Many thanks to all of family for a good stay. The tandem pair.
Great camping area with great fishing spots
Stayed here in july plenty of room for my tent great little shop but i was up till 3am with people drinking and playing football
Well kept site. Owner is hands on and doesn't take any messing. This was a good point as some sites have relaxed rules especially night time when trying to sleep. Great shallow lake , kids had a ball.
Well, what can I say? I don't know what the other reviewers were on about as the park owners, Aemon, Geraldine, and their son Enda, could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble - point in question on the Sunday we were there asked at the shop if they sold the paper. Answer was, "no, but just a moment. One of our staff is in town at the moment and I'll get her to pick one up for you on the way back."
Geraldine was halfway to delivering it to us when I met her on the way to our rig. Okay, the toilets could do with a bit of TLC, but they are aware of that and working on that, being one of the major projects they will be undertaking in the not too distant future.
I stayed there recently with a motorhome containing two adults and three kids. It was a nice break. I am keen on Stand Up Paddleboarding so the site is ideal. There is a lake across the road and the first big section of the lake is very shallow and perfect for SUP with small kids, where they can learn and get their confidence. The campsite staff will be able to supply a boat and buoyancy aids if people wanted to try getting on the water. Other pros are that the site has a take away which is handy if you want not to cook , and I found the staff friendly and helpful. I will go back again..
