Interesting Irish history, museum but not a particularity amazing site. Worth a visit if you have a day or two in Limerick, or if you are interested in 17/18th century Ireland.

More museaum then castle but a beautiful building to learn some history in. Limerick itself is a pretty busy city, very familiar feeling spot.

Outdoors activities great for kids of all ages, interactive castle exploration. The museum area prior to the actual castle visit gave a thorough background on the history of the castle and surrounding area, but was not really geared to children (most of the interactive activities there were out of service). It's set up so that you need to walk through the museum before you can get to the castle. Very interesting, but a bit boring (and a bit bloody) for kids, even with several animated video areas. Most of the castle activities were outdoors. We got a bit wet from afternoon rains, but still thoroughly enjoyed the archery, pretend dueling, stockades and interactive exhibits on life in the castle. Walking the ramparts and taking in the views from various levels of the castle was a highlight. Just watch your step as it can get a little bit slippery when raining!

One of the best narrative museums I've been too. Very compelling storytelling if not slightly aged. The Castle has great views of Limerick and the cafe has a good selection of food options.

Top notch family visit for historic Ireland. Excellent interactive displays and live characters. Beautiful view of city and countryside and river. Food cafe inside, picnic areas inside and out. Several lavatories, all clean.

A very pleasing experience. The castle is suitable for long or short tours, whatever suits the visitor. The view at the top of the towers is enjoyable. There should be more benches outside though, because the cafe is basically the only place where one can sit and rest. Overall, I recommend it as a must, if you enjoy sightseeing. Or even if you don't :-).

Fascinating castle, with high quality museum. Great staff in period attire to teach sword-fighting and archery. Good cafe on site in the gift shop, as well. Views from the tower of surrounding countryside were gorgeous on a clear June day.

King John's castle is one of the most well preserved castles I have ever seen!
Great museum inside, the museum is interesting and well suited for the whole family, so if you have kids you can take them here!
If you're a photographer be prepared to take some breath-taking photos from the castle's towers, because the view up there is amazing.
Visiting here is a MUST to anyone who visits Limerick.

Great displays set up to interpret life at the castle. Lots of historic information and even have an archaeological dig to show the original castle. The towers also provided a great view of Limerick.

The exhibition was very detailed and at some stages not done very well (eg. Sound was missing, cannons were stuck). Price is quite. Not worth a tour to limerick in my opinion, but if you're close anyway, you should visit it. The view from the top of the towers is lovely.

Always a five-star venue for our two under-10s. They enjoy hands-on immersive experience with cannons, helmets and touchscreens.

The tour is self-guided and has a ton of interactive stations for kids. Great family destination. I loved walking through at my own pace, reading the history and snapping photos.
