Upon arriving at the Lombard street location in Dublin we were told our rental was going to be twice as expensive as what we booked online and the online rate could not be honored because the Lombard location was a franchise and was not able to honor the online rate. We were then given the work around and had to jump through many hoops to provide proof that our credit card car rental insurance would be sufficient to meet Europcars requirements - this took almost an hour. If this wasn't the case we were going to be charged a daily insurance rate that was almost three times the rate of the car rental itself. We were also convinced to upgrade to a diesel because the fuel savings would have easily paid for the cost of the upgrade - the problem being that we were told that the upgrade vehicle would get 900-1000 km's per tank - we only averaged 700km As such we didn't actually end up saving anything. Additionally we were rushed through the vehicle inspection because it was raining out - this is my fault, i should have forced a longer walk around regardless of the weather. As a result when we returned the vehicle they found damage to the grill that we didn't do but had to pay for.
Interestingly, there were two other couples waiting to pick up their rental after us. We ran into the couple that was last in line the next day and they passed on that they and the couple before them were also put through a very disappointing rental experience.
I've always had good experiences with Europcar up to this point and unfortunately as a result of this experience Europcar has lost a customer. Europcar really needs toy look into this location. Scammed my husband and I into purchasing ALL THREE of their insurance packages. The person we dealt with made it seem like there were no other options and that we had to have that specific insurance for our trip (50€/day). When we called customer service, they said that they weren’t able to help, but that another in-person location would be able too. Luckily enough, they were right and the staff at the Kilkenny location reversed the charges for us, and confirmed that there was no way we should have been charged that amount.

No matter what Europcar tells you, you will not be able to return your car to this location. We had booked our rental with Europcar based on proximity of the return location to our hotel to maximize our time in Dublin (car was picked up from the airport). Our rental contract clearly stated that the car was to be returned at the Lombard Street location.
When we arrived to return it, we were told we had to bring it to the Spencer Dock location (20 minutes away) as they had "run out of space". When we got there, the Europcar employees at the Spencer Dock location actually told us that no returns are ever taken at the Lombard Street location and that it was a "miscommunication" (i.e. a lie).response / report this review -

Don't go there under any circumstance. They reported that we hit the car when we didn't do that, and in consequence we had to pay for something we didn't. It was completely unbelievable, they are completely pirates. Don't go there. Never.

Cheap for renting but you have to pay a full tank upfront and return it empty so if you don't spend it whole .. you lose 😕 Also you have to pay some extra insurance if you want to be completely insured since the one you pay via internet obviously doesn't cover it eventhough it kinda says so, but And we got a different car than we rented via internet - I think it was newer and a better one, but still. Convenient as it's in a city center, unless you want to rent a car right from the airport, where you have better and more choices I'd say.

I have rented a car and they when I return they charged for something I haven't done, I was not the only one, another guy returning a car had the same problem! YOU MUST NOT USE EUROPCAR!
