I went there in August 2017. Told it was closed because of no light in the toilets! No sign on the narrow road leading up to it, no mention that the castle was closed on the website. And all this during heritage week!! Not great at all :(

This may not be everyone's idea of an attraction, but I highly recommend it for those interested in history, ruins, and graveyards. You go to the tower, pay for it and a map, climb the tower (20mins to an hour) then do the hike up the road, turn right, climb over the wall (don't worry, you can) and see the giant cross. Then you walk across the field, watching for cow by-product, climb another wall, and see the church, tower, and graveyard. I loved it. Also, we went on a Friday at noon and were the only ones there the whole time, which was a stark contrast to the other attractions in the area.

I would just like to say that the minimum it costs to maintain these places is at the very least 1000 Euro so please don't complain about the entrance charge,it is very difficult to collect .

Looked cool on the outside and at the reception, but 5 euros to walk to the top seemed a bit steep considering all the other really cool abbeys and castles you can visit for the about the same price.
