I've been living in Ireland for 6 years now. Being a foodie I'm content enough with the usual quality you'd find in different restaurants. Dan Phil's proved the best so far, on par with 1-star Michelin's Restaurants I've tried all over the world. Ambient is cozy and elegant, service is nice and prompt without being hasty, and then - the food.
I'm a vegan-ish with random Vegetarian stints. Went there last Saturday with my wife and in-laws. I had the Soup and the Moroccan Butternut Squash and Chickpea Tagine.
The Soup was delicious. Green Put Lentils for flavour and consistency, sun-dried tomatoes for umami, and Creme Fraiche to connect the dots. Brioche bread toasted gave it that sweet-contrast to the amazing savoury of the food. Best Soup ever.
The Squash and Chickpea Tagine showed mastery of spices - too often spices are thrown around and overpower each other, while in this dish everything came together in a round, perfectly-balanced flavour.
My Father-in-law got the Rib Eye steak, well-done - and to his own admission it was delicious, flavourful, perfectly cooked, juicy and tender even if well-done.
At the end of the meal the Chef Christophe Zilliox came to show the face behind the dishes - and you can be sure he was proud of it.
I'll definitely be back and bring more gourmet friends here. Thanks!response / report this review -

Excellent food from a French chef.
Very good service and warm atmosphere. Next to / overlooking the Ouvane Falls in Ballylickey.
