One of the top three links courses in Ireland and the friendly staff to boot. Introduced to Carne ten year ago and never regretted it.
Looking forward to the next visit

We planned our trip 6 months in advance. I thought I had everything set. I had been in communication with Carne Golf to make sure they had clubs for us to use (with one left hander), and buggies for us lazy Americans. :-) They were so nice and accommodating.
Then came reality. We did not realize how long it would take to get from one point to another in Ireland. Google maps would tell us 1 hour, but it would turn out to be 3. Anyway, we realized the day before our tee times that we were just not going to be able to make it. Although against their policy (since we cancelled the day before), these people were so understanding that they refunded our money anyway.
So though I cannot make a recommendation on the course itself, since we didn't get to play, I can certainly recommend the establishment and the people.

Played Carne in April, 2016. It was exhilarating, every shot is an adventure. I think if I was limited to playing only one golf course the rest of my life Carne would be that course. It is beautiful, challenging, quirky and great fun if you are a fan of links golf.

Played Carne as a single on July 18, 2016. Sunny day, unseasonably warm with mild winds and couldn't figure out why course was empty. Turns out a local football dignitary's funeral was taking place and most of locals were attending. Walked the course and struggled without local knowledge and more than a few blind shots. Stunning dunes and greens teetering on cliff edges. Lots of elevated tees and greens. Beautiful ocean views and every hole a unique challenge. Got a pretty good rate on-line day before playing. Had read about Carne in two separate books; "Ancestral Links" by John Garrity, SI writer and forgot other. Takes some time to get to but worth the trip!! 89 for a 10 handicapper so I was pleased with score not knowing course. Eddie Hackett's last design, did not disappoint!
