Since disposing of waste in Ireland is too expensive (compare with many other EU countries), BigBin is a great solution and you can buy the ticket in advance online, no commitments. However, there are few things to say:
- first of all, it does not fit 2 80l bags; unless people are waisting their time, money and extra plastic (hello environment) to fill plastic bags only by a little more than half way, 2 bags together (as per BibBin asd) do not fit!
- second of all, they removed many of the BigBin initially available in County Cork, therefore it does not worth the time and gas to drive 25/30 km away to throw waste (which, BTW, will be nicely smelling while it sits with you in your carit's not a 10 minutes drive)
- to follow my 2nd point, there was one in Cobh for a while and it was a disaster! It was very often full or not working properly (in fact, I often called beforehand to know if it was working that day), so it looks like nobody took care of it regularly and they just took it away instead of fix it properly or replace it.
In other words, it does not do exactly what it says but it still can be convenient for the lucky people/families leaving nearby one. But it is definitely useless and troublesome for anyone else. PITY, because it would have been my preferred option to dispose of garbage. Hopefully, they will bring the bins in some other towns in the future.

I always use it for my general waste. Way cheaper than collection (the less bills the better) and we recycle most of our stuff anyway at the civic amenity centres and bottle banks around. Great customer service too by phone if ever there's an issue.

Great option for our household needs. A normal bin service would not be suitable for the level of waste we generate week to week. The BIGbin gives us the freedom to dispose our waste at our choosing. It's easy to use and cost effective!
