  I wouldn’t recommend it. I have been taking riding lessons on and off for years and have been going regularly recently. But when I was on the Gili Air horse, it started galloping out of control from the shore onto the road and wouldn’t stop despite my commands. I later found out that the horse was new. I was displeased with how they would let a guest ride an untamed horse, especially since they had no knowledge of my experience level. Had it been a first timer rider, he/she might not have known how to stay on the horse and might have been thrown off easily.
  
  Even after that unpleasant start, they shaved off 10 minutes of our time and insisted it’s been an hour despite my protest.

  This is not a trail ride style of a horse ride. The horses are working jorses not trail horses.
  We got two horses and they were lead by 2 local guys (walking)
  There's no safety equipment _ no helmets. I wouldn't recommend it but we did get some nice pictures of us on them in the sea.
