Temple is beautiful but price for foreigners is 10 times the local price. And for your 25$ you don't get even displays or handouts in English. What a organized robbery backed by UNESCO (how about a fair price policy?)

It’s smaller than I thought but it’s still worth visiting. The temple itself is breathtaking. I recommend you sign up for a tour guide to understand the history of this place, which is fascinating. But I don’t think you need to spend more than 2 hours here. This place reminds me how multi-faith Indonesia is.

One of many Indonesian tourist spot that worth to visit. This place is breathtakingly beautiful. Tips for any traveller, its best to go between March to October. The rainy season mean it will be raining everyday.. And since it open since 6 am. Its better to go here at 6 am. So the heat will not going to be to strong. :) Bring your own hat and umbrella people.. 😄😅

Very very beautiful historical site with very rich story behind it.. it has that mystical air around it.. loads of tourists came here in the morning just to see the sunrise and take some really beautiful photos.. it's just that too many locals are doing business on the temple's surroundings and they are very annoying to be honest.. should implement some rules and regulations to control then.. thatsthe 4 stars..

Great place! Great reliefs! Mystical atmosphere - if there weren’t so many visitors. Admission for tourists is now $25.
4 stars because of the hassle at the very end. All people are guided through a labyrinth of souvenir stalls selling the same things and eager on pulling you to their shop. It’s a torture but maybe the thing you need to be earthed after visiting such a magical place?response / report this review -

Amazing place. However the experience is marred by some aspects:
Try not to speak English or the price will be higher
If your a student, don't forget to bring your student ID (you can have discount but only if you have the PHYSICAL one)
The women at the entrance gate are not reasonable
Place is too crowded
Too many vendors trying to sell their stuff (and you need to get through their stand in order to leave the place)response / report this review -

Was there for the sunrise, it was nice but I think it would be better to watch the sunrise onto this temple form the mountain. Still very interesting to walk along this temple and notice the various carving, statues and depictions. This is a must do if you are in this part of Indonesia.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fascinating piece of history. If you're a foreigner, be prepared to pay around $25 USD. I suggest you hire a tour guide for one hour for 100,000 rupiah (about $7.50). Be prepared for the vendors: if you show interest, they will follow you "to the ends of the earth" (but not inside the site). Be a good negotiator and don't overpay (too much). Offer 25% of what's asked and settle for 33-40% Remember to smile; it's part of the experience!

A must-see UNESCO site in Indonesia. Once you get past the persistent hawkers, it's a beautiful walk through a nature reserve to see the Buddhist temple. You have several options for a tour. There's a 4:30am sunrise tour and also a sunset tour. Both are a little more expensive than general admission, but all prices are around 25 USD for foreigners.
There are two small museums on the site, but I found them unremarkable. However, there's a nature preserve about one mile (depending on your route) from the temple, and you can see elephants playing.
If you want to see the offices within the nature preserve, you'll need to make an appointment--they're not used to anyone wanting to visit their offices. (September 2017)response / report this review -

Amazingly beautiful. It is close to 1 hour drive from Yogyakarta. Huge complex with quite a lot of shopping stalls. But don't try buying as most items are of poor quality.

So amazing and very well preserved. Try to stay at guest house here called Manohara, you'll definitely not regret that. Please, be very extra careful with touching stuffs which offered by the souvenirs sellers, you might broke it. It will be much better to just see the stuffs from a far. And the sellers will remember your face, so even if you say no to them before the entrance gate, they will come back to you nearby the exit gate.

If you want to dodge the crowds, book a night in the hotel on the temple territory and go for "see the sunrise" tour. You'll have it to yourself and very few European tourists long enough to really enjoy it and appreciate all the beauty. It's a bit pricey, all right, but well worth the money.

Very beautiful place. The best time to go here is around sunrise time. If you are going by public transport, I advise you to come back to the bus stop before 6 PM. Last time I was here, I had to catch the bus on the street because we missed the last bus and finally found one around 9 PM.

A truly amazing experience, stepping back in time. The area is well protected and preserved. The temple is beautiful and totally worth visiting. I'd recommend going there for sunrise. It's truly magical. Can walk around the area and the ground and learn more about its incredible history
