Fabulous and elegant .. perfect for a spot of tea or coffee.. you must try the special coffee which as they say the making of the coffee is a show it self ! Great cakes and sweets .. amazing bar .. the ambiance is grand and the place is steeped in so much history it transports you to another era !

During a visit to Budapest we visited twice. In the evening we had wine and beer and during the day we had coffee and pastries. The drinks were excellent but the pastries are divine. The staff are very friendly and attentive.

The real thing- a rouge's gallery of famous Hungarian poets,novelists, and poets who hung out here is posted on several walls of this still elegant coffeehouse. The service and food maintain all the little touches one would have expected in 1887 a glass of water, a glass with unsweetened whipped cream, and a small sugar cookie with your espresso. Wonderful pastries and proper hot chocolate too.

We have not been there for dinner but they have a grand piano and live music most nights too.

Great decor and ambiance. Wait staff seemed attentive without being obnoxious. Went for lunch and the bread and dill butter we're delicious, the soup and chicken entree, while small, were tasty. Only three stars due to the uncomfortably hot indoor temperature - hard to enjoy the meal. Also the ginger lemonade tasted like regular lemonade. My spouse got a cappucino and there was barely any foam on top. So just a few slips on the basics.

The food was fantastic, the decor even better. Their cocktail list could use some work to give off a better vibe for the era they are going for. Would have stayed for a few if it had anything interesting. Talking Bijou, Negroni, Corpse reviver or modern twist versions. Sadly the cappuccino was more of a latte with not enough foam. Could also use some AC but this seems typical for Budapest when it is 40C out.

We were looking for a traditional cafe in Budapest and with a bit of luck we found this wonderful place!
The coffee and desserts are awesome. We decided to come back for Dinner and it was amazing as well! The staff is very politely, fast and nice. The menu card is not polluted and you are able to have some traditional food for average prices! We really enjoyed it and if we will ever come back Café Central needs to be visited again.

This is a simply fabulous art deco cafe/restaurant. It certainly is possible that the decor is recreated, but it is beautiful. The food, on the other hand, is less traditional, with modern touches.. We had dinner and were entirely satisfied with both food and, especially, service. Recommended.

Fantastic place to eat. Two adults with two main dishes and four drinks came to around 40 euros.

Food was beautiful and service was friendly and quick. Great terrace in a lively street, additionally the interior is historic.

Highly recommended.

Lovely ambience and excellent service. The waitress who served me was very polite and friendly. Upon hearing that I want to try their desserts, she brought me to the cake display and recommended some of the more popular Hungarian cakes, including the orange cheese cake and a walnut vanilla cake. The cakes were divine! The prices were very reasonable in my opinion for the quality of the cakes and tea, definitely cheaper than Starbucks. It is indeed a joy to have cakes and tea in this high ceiling classical building with modern light musicthis must be why they have been around since 1887! A five star experience at a fraction of the cost. A must try!

Horrible. Waitress was extremely rude, which we initially took on the chin as perhaps she was having a bad day which every person is entitled to. Unfortunately she then thought she would get away with serving us bread in literally a dirty used napkin, it was stained with old food and wet with a spilt drink. There was no way she wouldn't have noticed this and therefore could only assume she did it on purpose. We cancelled our order and left. No apology from management just an annoyed reaction. Definite tourist trap. Would avoid. Loads of other options to eat with great service and cheaper charge.
