Lots of bedbugs!!! (read further for a full description) Friendly. Decent central location. Little lockers with keys but no locks on bedroom doors. Smoke from the staff smoking vast quantities indoors with windows closed (despite many non-smoking signs posted throughout). No internet despite being told there was wifi. (We were told it was "broken" and they "don't know how long until it is fixed".)

The room had high ceilings, and 3 beds, large windows, a decent kitchen and a couple of showers (maybe not enough considering the number of guests). Our first night was ok except for having to request them to open the windows in other areas of the hostel (the staff was smoking inside close to the dorm rooms and filling them with smoke.) Things seemed reasonably clean and labeled. We had hot water and what appeared to be clean sheets, though the staff forgot the towels we were promised and we had to ask repeatedly for the locks for the lockers and for the internet code (which turned out to be pointless as it didn't work).

Obviously they are trying to do a good job, are friendly and seem to care. However, very early in the morning we found an adult bedbug crawling on the bathroom wall. We went back to check the beds and found they were crawling with bedbugs underneath the mattresses and on the floor, despite the beds being relatively new. We went on a killing spree (so gross and bloody) but there were too many and there's really no point unless you are going to do a full treatment to kill them all. We were covered in bedbug bites (which have now shown up a couple days later as tons of itchy red bumps on both of us) and there were bloody splotches on the red sheets from when they were eating us for midnight snack. We spent the rest of our "vacation" day at a local laundromat, spending quite a bit of cash, stripping off our clothes and super heating all of our belongings, including our backpacks and shoes, towels, everything that had been in the hostel, to make sure we didn't carry them onward. Then it took hours to find a new place to stay.

When the management was informed, they tried to be helpful and came in with a steamer to fight the bugs. Obviously this wasn't the first occasion. Unfortunately, they don't understand enough about bedbugs to know the protocol for killing them (60 degrees celsius for 20 minutes or over to kill all stages, and they live for up to 6 months). I'm sure this lack of education is why they still have the bugs. They are VERY hard to manage if you don't completely isolate the situation and bomb/steam/clean EVERYTHING including baseboards and beds and cupboards, etc. They are not just in the bedding. They were literally crawling the walls. Obviously, we left after the first night despite having prepaid for 3 nights in cash. We had to make demands and be very insistent in order to get a refund for the nights we had not even used yet, after being told a refund wasn't possible. Eventually they gave us a full refund in cash and apologized. I believe they were genuinely sorry, but you should not have to beg for a refund for nights you haven't stayed yet when so many issues were untenable. I will not stay there again. Hopefully, they will bomb the place or heat treat it to kill the infestation, otherwise everyone who goes there is likely to become a carrier and infest their own homes and other hotels and hostels. If they kill the bugs, then I am sure it will be a decent cheap place to stay.

We had arrived at this hostel at 3 am in search of a place to stay. At midnight it still had free places on booking for around 12 euro each so I was full of hope. Upon arrival we were told that there were no beds in shared rooms (someone else already took the free spaces??) and that the only option was a 45 euro room. The room was nice and we were tired so we agreed to the high price. After paying and filling out the forms the guy tells us that check out time is 7am!! What??? 45 euros for 4 hours of sleep?? The guy didn't even give us a receipt nor wanted to look at our passports. I have a feeling he just took the money for himself. After some "give us our money back!!" he agreed to extend checkout time to 8, than 9 and finally 10 am.

So this is settled. I go in the shower and as soon as I start the waster, the lights go out was it an auto off switch? Tell me about it then!!
