Dove with Vance from Barefoot Divers on April 7th 2018. By far the nicest and most organized dive shop I've ever dove with! Vance was a blast, full of energy and very attentive. Their facility was the best I've seen anywhere in the carribbean. Can't wait to dive with them again!

Beautiful facilities, awesome staff. The only problems we had was barking dogs and you can't be in a hurry for food a d sometimes drinks.

We had an overall great time. There was an issue with our reservations at first, but it was addressed professionally. Our room faced East, so sunrise was our thing. The staff love their job, and from the top down, if they can make something more to your needs, they do it. Restaurant was excellent. Cocktails were tasty. We did not dive, or use the spa. This stay can mean rain, and you are walk on the island from your room to the restaurant, or to the tender, and then back to land.

Roatan (ROW uh tahn) is a semi-autonomous island of Honduras. A true island paradise, if ever there was one. Roatan was settled by three distinct ethnic groups:

1) The descendants of Mayan/Aztec/native Central Americans who speak mostly Spanish (the official language);

2) The descendants of English pirates who used Roatan (then called Rattan Island) as a base of operations and a safe haven - these folks mostly speak English;

and 3) The descendants of a colony of freed English slaves who also mostly speak English. A wide and delightful ethnic mix, who all were quite friendly.

The security guard at the resort was named Edison, and claimed to be Eddie Murphy's nephew.

The Resort (Barefoot Cay) was absolutely delightful. Most of the resort encompasses a small island (Cay), with a small harbor on the west end, and cabanas lining most of the shores.

The island also had a dugout canoe available to paddle around the lagoon.

There's a small ferry that runs 24/7 to take you the 100 feet or so to the main island any time you'd like.

Barefoot Cay itself is also home to Chaccaron - a clipped and very friendly parrot who strolls the island at will, and converses with the visitors. Loosely translated his name means "Chatterbox", and he really is one! It's funny, too, because he generally only says "Good Morning" before around ten. He also laughs - which is a dead ringer for the way their office manager laughs.

His antics are defiantly a draw for the resort!

To the south of the Cay runs a long pier with a Tiki Hut/Gazebo on the end - a perfect place to watch a sunset.

Absolutely love barefoot cay! This was our second visit and I swear, the staff just gets nicer every visit! Great personal service in an intimate setting. There is also a world class dive shop attached to this resort that exceeded our expectations with fantastic service and safety.

The resort taxi driver was unavailable so the driver sent an unknown (to resort) person— the very old pickup truck was broken down and we waited at the side of the road while 4-5 men tried to jump it and get it running (not a quick process). While waiting for someone to get the truck running, one of the men asked why we wouldn’t keep the money with the locals— there is apparently a real beach (swimming) at a cost of ~$45.00. Another person on our cruise later confirmed this option. I felt guilty— we should have supported the local people of the area. I hope you will!

Instead, we spent ~$350.00 for ”taxi” service and a private beach area & oceanfront villa/suite that ONLY included sand (and litter)— not ocean, water or swimming. The private beach area (sand only) in front of the villa, with lounge chairs, table/chairs and a hammock was unusable because an employee with a backpack blower was spraying an unknown chemical— aside from the smell, you could taste it in the air. It did not feel safe to be outside in our “private” area because of the unknown chemicals. We left the area immediately.

There was a crowd of people at the public dock, which was the only place to swim (small area)— we had to step over their belongings in order to enter the water via the stairs and walk over them as they sunbathed on the dock walkway. We were told that cruise/day visitors were limited to 4 adults (in writing when booking)— the crowd at the dock exceeded that claim, telling us that they were also from a cruise (later acknowledged as day guests by the resort). We left the area quickly.

Unfortunately, we shared all of this with management and they apologized, claimed they would look into it and stopped responding.

We also booked spa appointments and lunch, add-on drinks (additional ~$425.00), which were very nice; however, due to the accommodations, we left as soon that part was over.

NOT WORTH IT! We spent a small fortune and missed the country and beach (with ocean).

I came from the other side of the island to dive one day. I had a lovely time with a young woman DM and captain will. They were quite thorough and thoughtful which is more than I can say for many other dive shops. I took a short walk around the resort and boy do I wish I could afford to there. It's absolutely lovely! So go!

Very low key. Great staff that is well trained on completely unobtrusive service. Very private and small (about 35 max). Three daily scheduled dives from the shop. Good food. Decent snorkling from the palapa dock.

I stayed at Barefoot Cay a couple months ago. It was absolutely beautiful. The staff was great. The weather was perfect. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
