If you come to HK without having an egg tart from Tai Cheong, then you've wasted a flight. The egg tarts are always piping hot, fresh out of the oven because of the waves of people that come by throughout the day. Usually there's no line, but even if there is, it goes really quickly.
At 9 HKD, admittedly, they're not the best value. And you have to have it fresh. If you take it to go and eat it later, the crust is no longer the same.
We went 3 times during our 6 day stay in Hong Kong, and some of our egg tarts made it back to Los Angeles. But they didn't last long!
One of the best egg tarts I have ever had. A coconut tart was also great.
That egg tart place. If you like egg tarts. They're shiny. But they're egg tarts. Kinda more runny and not-cooked than I expected. But worth a try.
Strange, on Google Maps it's just shown as Egg Tart. I guess that's what it's famous for. Small shop nestled unassumingly on a small street. If not for the queue outside the shop I'd have probably miss it. Join the queue and buy some egg tarts; you won't regret it.
The egg tarts are usually hot off the oven (well, probably the egg tarts don't have time to cool down before being snapped up by hungry customers), so it's really nice and hot. The skin is crusty and flaky, while the egg custard is warm, smooth and gooey. It's also not too sweet. It's one of the things that one should try while in Hong Kong.
Visited at 8am on a Sunday morning and there was blissfully no crowd. The egg tart lives up to reputation, not overly sweet, with a crusty that's slightly crunchy and fragrant. Definitely one of the best egg tarts I ever had!
WARM GOOEY FLAKY YUMMINESS! Saw a line outside this establishment on my way to Cat Street. Then passed it again on the way back with just a few people waiting so I decided to try the EGG CUSTARD tart which was the big draw. Glad I did!
Gathering from the little crowd that formed outside this establishment I figured this place must have earned a cult status of some kind so I decided to join the line to try out their specialty egg tart. It's served warm & fresh with a good balance of silky custard & crunchy tart casing. I personally found it to be slightly too sweet but that won't stop me from buying them in the future for friends & family.
Egg tarts here became infamous when the last Governor of HK, Chris Patten, reportedly called them "the best egg tarts in the world". No doubt, they are tasty but the pricing point is a tad high. Equally good ones could be found at the local independent bakeries at a fraction of the cost.
Great egg tarts in an iconic neighborhood. Best to go in the morning when the lines aren't long. Get a couple to eat right away and then a box to take as a gift.
Great egg tarts and other Hong Kong style pastries. Would recommend getting there early - the lines get very long, which is awful when it's humid and hot outside.
There are many local snacks you must try in Hong Kong – pineapple buns, mini egg puffs, wife cake, white sugar cake and not forgetting the egg tarts. Oh, that smooth bright yellow egg custard, seated inside crumbly fragrant buttery crust. Get them freshly baked, eat them warm! You can easily find these decadent tarts at old-school confectioneries.
Freshly baked. Best crust that taste like butter cookies. Best food in Hk =)
Yummy egg tarts still warm from the oven, buttery crumbly crust and very smooth custard. Various other pastries were also good - tried the century egg pastry that oddly had yam paste in it and a fluffy sugar puff.
Chicken pie was butter but had rather dry fillings, though the one I had in SG was superb.
Egg tarts!!!!! Delicious! They only have the normal pie egg tart (not the croissant/layered pie).
Love their pastry. If you havent tried egg tart here, you havent arrived in Hong Kong!
This place has great pastries. I would suggest the egg tarts. They are very delicious. If you wait at the bakery for a little while you can even get some hot put of the oven. They bake them all day long.
All the four stars are for their egg tart. It was fresh, creamy, and not too sweet with the right balance of eggy goodness.
We walked past and saw a long queue outside the shop and decided to see what it is all about. My friend who is local was pleasantly surprised with both the egg tart and thousand egg tart. Both were fresh out of the oven, moist filling with crisp pastry. We liked it.
