UPDATE: GDOE has canceled summer school classes today, July 5, 2018. All GDOE 12-month employees report at 1 PM, in line with the rest of GovGuam. Part-time employees do not report to work today.

Tiyan High School student Lidio Fullo will be representing Guam at the Four Star Leadership program with General Tommy Franks in Oklahoma this summer. Thanks to the Department of Administration, he is also the latest recipient of the GovGuam mileage program, meaning his airfare to attend the program is covered in full. Congratulations Lidio!!

Did you know that robotics can be used to bring the legends of Guam to life? The STEAM team from Astumbo Elementary School represented Guam at the International Society for Technology in Education conference last week, and explained how “Guambotics” can be used to do just that. Watch the video below to hear from the STEAM team and how they are using robotics to drive student engagement and achievement at their school.

Astumbo Elementary School represents Guam at the ISTE conference in Chicago, IL illustrating their school’s use of “Guambotics” in the classroom. The conference caters to over 20,000 people from across the globe. Way to go Home of the Butterflies!!

The superintendent and Guam Education Board members conducted a walk-through of Chief Brodie Elementary School on Monday. The walk through assessed the possible conversion of Chief Brodie ES to a middle school. The proposal would address the need for a central middle school in Guam.

Administrators and teachers from our different high schools and middle schools share their work with Guam Education Board members and representatives from the business community as a culminating activity after a five day training in Career Academies and College and Career Readiness.
Drs. Jay Steele and Michelle Wilcox from the National Career Academies Coalition were the trainers during the week.
Schools will now be working on their school action plans and next steps based on what they have learned.
This training is 100% funded through the Career Pathways project in our US Department of Education Consolidated Grant.
