Paradise On The River - this is a gem of a place. Friendly, relaxed, clean, well-equipped, and oh so beautiful. This is the place to come if you hope to truly enjoy nature and get off the tourist trail. The staff could not have been more accommodating or welcoming. Meals were varied and prepared fresh. They offer shared, semi-private, and private cabins. This year they have built a couple of bungalows (see photos) that are right out of an architectural dream. The staff can give many recommendations for places to go and things to do (hiking, canoeing, trips to Livingstone, etc.) If "exclusive" and "undiscovered" match your personality, then The Round House is your place.

Perfekter Ort!! Das Haus liegt direkt am Fluss, hat zwei Stege mit Hängematten und Liegestühlen. Die Anlage ist super geflegt, die Mojitos unschlagbar lecker und beim gemeinsamen Abendessen kommen alle Gäste in Kontakt. Bei dem entspannten Ort und dem netten Personal komme ich auf jeden Fall wieder!

The Roundehouse is perfectly located between Rio Dulce (the town) and Livingston, right on the river. You can jump into the river at any time from its two platforms with comfy hammocks and beach chairs. Everything is clean and designed to function. It does get hot and humid -after all this is the jungle- but at the river there is always some wind (which also keeps most mosquitos away). The breakfast is not included but not at all pricy and excellent. Dinners are family style -- all guests at a big table with some of the staff. Speaking of staff, Hayme who is there at all times is a lovely and fun guy who is always up for jokes. Thanks to him, it feels a bit like home there. Definitely recommend staying there!

Incredible location right on the river. The guy that works in the reception was an absolute legend and really helped us with our onward travels. The family dinner was always filling and delicious. Just wish the transfer wasn't so expensive!

**Location not as shown on map - it's actually a long way away on the river**
It was nice, something I'd never seen before. The owners really let themselves down though. The first night (Christmas eve) we were woken up first by one of their litter of dogs howling and growling for at least an hour from around 4 am. Then another closer dog joined in with barking. Apparently they are bitten by vampire bats which cause them to bleed a lot. One of the bitten dogs came upstairs to my bedside and slept bleeding on my clothes. They also have their spots on the lounges so if you get up to do something and come back to find one has taken your spot there's little you can do. As with many places in Guatemala the owners value their relationship with the dogs above paying guests. Next the cats started fighting and then the owners joined in downstairs in the bar area. I remember this was before sunrise because the rooster came afterwards.
The following night it was the same deal. This time much earlier though. I woke at about 2 am and the fighting continued until around 3am when they headed to the bedroom which is situated right in the middle of the whole place and unlike the other rooms they have a bright light which shines through the floorboards. We had to wait then something like 45 minutes for them to shut up and actually turn the lights off and go to sleep. It seems they like to sleep during the day and stay up at night, drinking, getting aggressive and keeping guests awake.
It's not just the noise at inappropriate hours - it's nasty to hear. Calling each other fagots, threatening to break bottes over each other's faces, f-ing this, f-ing that. There were two families staying in the private rooms either side of theirs and they heard everything. One was a Christian family who never used curse words and the other had young children. I'd definitely not recommend bringing children here. I think the reason Lonely Planet called it a party house is because of the owners' behaviour because it's otherwise not.
The boat trip over takes 45 minutes or more. It's not covered so if it rains you're in trouble. The toilets are a walk along an overgrown path up into the pitch black jungle. There is a light on the path but it was broken. It's really not fun at night. We had one towel to share between three people because apparently it's hard to dry things there. You have to ask for them and if you’re lucky you’ll get one to share for the entire stay. You don't get blankets - just the flat sheet. I woke up cold a lot. The showers were dead cold each day.
Now for the positives: The food was fantastic. The atmosphere is great with the exception of the fighting owners and the animal infestation. The round house itself is really interesting and it feels remote.
I would not recommend this place nor would I return.response / report this review -
