This monastery was featured in the James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only.
Really beautiful location and history to witness.
Really beautiful views from the top of the monastery. The place itself is quite small and not overwhelming but you can't expect much more for a monastery on the top of a rock. If you are able, try the hike up from kalambaka it is very beautiful and nice to be in nature

These rock pillars are aged over 60 million years and rise to 400 meters in heightThe Greek word ‘Meteora’ means ‘suspended in air’Originally 24 monasteries were built here by the monks, between 14th and 16th century. But only 6 of them have survived through the timeUntil the 18th century, Meterora monasteries were served as a center of art and scholarshipHoly monastery of great meteoron, holy monastery of varlaam, holy monastery of rousanou, holy monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas, Holy monastery of St. Stephen and the Holy monastery of trinity are the existing Meteora monasteriesToday, Meteora is a popular rock-climbing site and a world heritage site. It is also surrounded by beautiful hills and river valleys.
They use religion for economic benefit only. They do not let athletes climb up to do what they love. They have set a ticket for 3euro . DO NOT PAY
Wooow awesome
Amazing place, especially if you arrive by taking the trekking trail. The view (of it and from it) is incredible, and the peace you feel being so high up in the middle of the Meteora mountains is absolutely unique.
Maybe the best one of the six meteoron still alive. The view is wonderful and the atmosphere you breathe is magical!
This is a breathtaking monastery and the one can feel that this is holy ground. It is a heavenly place. Bless those who are there.
4stars just because of the surprising landscape, otherwise it was closed. Check carefully the openning hours, cause you are in Greece!
