As promised in the start of this series today I will cover as much as I can about my accommodation, Hotel Vienna situated on Pireos 20, Athina 104 31. If you use google maps or Waze you can also search for Tsaldari 20 and it will give you the same location.
Before diving in I want to mention that Hotel Vienna is a 2 star hotel and I graded it according to what 2 star hotels offer.
    Reaching it
From Athens Airport you get on the blue line(3) and stop at Syntagma Square station. From there you get on the red line(2) towards Anthoupoli and get down at the second station, Omonia. From Omonia square you will look for P. Tsaldari and walk on it for about 150 meters and the Hotel will be on the right. Just across the street is Dorian Inn Hotel so you can’t really miss it.

    Location and surroundings
Now, this is where things are mixed a bit. The hotel is located very well. Monastiraki area is about 900 meters away, the Acropolis and Plaka area is about 1.7 km away, the Ancient Agora is about 1 km away and The Arch of Hadrian and the Temple of Zeus are about 2 km away.
However if you are travelling as a couple or as single girls/group of girls I would strongly suggest you avoid Menandrou Street and Geraniou Street when setting up your itinerary towards the Acropolis or Monastiraki.
The entire area seems a bit dodgy but in all honesty I haven’t encountered any problems except being measured up and down countless of times by the men hanging out on the streets.
As stated above, Omonia Metro is situated very close so if anybody enjoys using the metro as transportation inside the city the hotel has a nice advantage with a metro station so close.
    Staff
This is where the hotel receives a big plus from me. All the people met in the lobby, at the reception were great and I really enjoyed talking to them and they were very helpful with hints or warnings.
    Breakfast
I think this is the Hotel’s main problem. During week days there is a fixed breakfast, composed of a packed croissant, 2 slices of bread, one triangle of melted cheese, a few small spreadable boxes (butter, jam) and a glass of orange juice and on Saturday and Sunday there is a buffet where you can have some yogurt, 2 types of ham and a type of cheese.
I don’t want to sound weird but having experienced two star hotels in other countries as in Thessaloniki also I can honestly say that I can’t remember a poorer choice of breakfast ever.
I sincerely believe that by investing a bit in the quality of breakfast would bring a plus to the experience of staying at this hotel.
    Room
Athens is a loud city. Really loud. So if you’re unlucky and get a street room, you should definitely bring ear plugs or buy a pair from a pharmacy. With the door to the balcony closed the sound of scooters, alarms, horns and ambulances is still strong enough to prevent you from sleeping.
The room is medium sized, has a TV and air conditioning and is very clean. Each day the bed was made, towels changed so from this point I was very satisfied with the hotel.
    Price
I got a real bargain on Agoda so for four nights I paid 153.20 EUR (double room).
    Verdict
After some time of thinking I decided to give the hotel a 3 out of 5 points. The staff is really great, without it my verdict would probably have been around a 2.5.
The breakfast is not good and the street rooms are very noisy (I stood on the fifth floor and the noise was strong).
As an adult I found it easy to walk towards the most important sights so no complaint there however keep in mind that if you’re in for a little night drink or some fun you could have to walk for some time to reach it.

Clean hotel and very good price. A lot of graffiti everywhere but that is all of Athens. Reminds me of Vietnam how shops and restaurants are laid out throughout the city.

Place wreaks of smoke as the hotel houses residents who chain smoke into the early hours of the morning 2 stars for what it is 2*

Nice rooms, helpful reception but terrible location with dodgy dudes wandering around at night. After two nights I booked another hotel even though I paid in advance

Great location in central Athens with immediate access to all public transportation. Also it is situated near archeological sites, the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum. A lot to see in a walking distance that will satisfy all preferences. Finally great hospitality and great staff. I highly recommend it, great value to your money.
