Labadi beach is a popular water tourist site in the heart of Accra, Ghana. There are lots of people here from different parts of the world. One of the most interesting attraction for me was the man who makes sand sculptures. I had to tip him for a great job. There's a horse ride, all terrain vehicle for rent and all types of drinks too - the beers taste good too. The hot barbecue, coconut and food. It was fun getting my feet wet and getting under the canopy to watch a live performance. There's a car park and restroom here. Wheelchair access but the sands could pose a little challenge though. If you are in Accra, do find time to visit here.

This review is for the publicly accessible part of Labadi Beach.

Labadi has such potential! The row of restaurants, which turn into vibrant night spots past dusk, is great. You have a range of cuisines to sample, and music to dance to. There's a lot of trade going on. Folks will try to sell you sheshah/Hookah, carvings, beadwork, etc. Being a black male, most of the traders were very receptive of my smile and firm "no, thank you!" There's a group of roving musicians who will do a quick jig for you, in exchange for change. In other parts of the world, many of these folks would simply be begging. I try to appreciate their ingenuity/entrepreneurial bent.

Beyond that, Labadi sucks. The water has, unfortunately, been exposed to trash. Plastic is the key culprit here, as in many other parts of the world. There also aren't enough publicly accessible bathrooms. It was scandalous for me to witness how many men simply peed at the water's edge and worse. With a little bit of care, Labadi would be a great spot.

Ghana is generally a hassle-free country for tourists, but this beach is one of the few places where I as a solo traveler felt a bit uncomfortable due to the tourist hassle. It is also well known for its pickpockets, which is a shame as the beach is nice in its own right.

Was at Labadi Beach today (2016-10-22), but left the place after 15-20 minutes. The beach was influenced by garbage and junk. Witnessed local fishermen who drew up their catch on the beach, it consisted at least 3/4 trash and rest was fish. With so much trash floating in the sea it invites not to bathe. Nor to eat a fish meal at one of "restaurants" at Labadi Beach. With all the garbage in the sea and water it's guaranteed toxic waist in water to.
