Elmina castle is a centuries old slave trade fortes. The location is very pretty. a beautiful scenery. There are great guides who can almost bring history to life by their stories. A must go when you visit Ghana. a lot of slave made people ware traded here by the Arabic traders and sold to European ships. a great part of the people who live these days in Suriname came from Ghana.

I suggest all Africans and non Africans must pay a visit to the Castle. The History of how our forefathers were sold and tortured during the slave trade is a must know for every individual. At the end of the tour i personally felt fortunate for what i am today without holding any grudge to the slave masters but to look forward to campaigning on human rights protection for all. The tourist guide were excellent.

Everyone should visit once in their lifetime. Living history. "Pre-order" bracelets with your name woven into it from the vendor outside the castle. But wait to buy artifacts at the end of the tour from the shop in the very last room inside the castle; their prices were the most reasonable. And don't forget to tip the tour guide if they do a good job. My guide did great! Professional, cordial and knowledgeable.

Tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. Very moving experience. I learned a lot and it was definitely worth the visit. They also have a book store with lots of great books on Africa, and an art shop. The inside of the castle is beautiful with a rich history.

It's a place to visit but I am more into nature. In fact, I didn't go inside but outside castle is better place. You should go towards the rock after crossing the down area. It s beautiful for photography and the breeze and the clear water.

We had a great tour here. Our tour guide was a local university student and he was knowledgeable and easy to understand. The castle was cool to see and learning about its history was thought provoking. After the tour we were able to keep wandering around and explore the castle.

Already when approaching the castle, the surrounding port, the colorful boats set a very intereting atmosphere. Then you enter the castle, and forget about the outside world. Wander around the rooms and chambers and try to consume everything you see, hear and imagine about life, centuries ago.

You really can't miss visiting this magnificent piece of history! A must.

The oldest European building in the Sub-Saharan Africa. It was built the 1600s and is still in existence. It holds a rich history of the Trans Atlantic Trade. It is recommended for every body to visit this iconic attraction in Ghana.

If you can hold your tears when they tell the stories, when you see where the slaves slept & get to the point of no returnthen go. Its beautiful views makes you wonder how such inhumane things can happen at such a beautiful place. The tour guides are great & helpful, they have gift shops and be sure to take beautiful pictures at the top with the ocean view

Great and historic place to be.. Too much Emotions for our brother's and sisters in the diaspora. The arts market has beautiful things to offer, make sure you buy a CD PLAYER about the castle. enjoy your visit!

Walking throughout Elmina Castle I could feel the presence of Souls that came thru this part history. The Tour guide was absolutely fabulous. Its good thing to tip him. His deep details of the horrors that happened here to Africans by Europeans is heartbreaking. But we as Africans can never be broken. We are strong. Knowing my Great Great Great Great Grand Father passed thru here and survived slavery and my Family still strong in 2017 its amazing my People our history Our strength. Just amazing.

Amazing experience! The only thing that put a damper on the experience were the overzealous trolls outside of the castle trying to shake up down for money. It really was very irritating and the Elmina staff should avoid them crowding visitors like they did us. They wait right at the entry way and as soon as you exit they are on you like vultures. If it were not for the driver warning us I would have been very afraid. Nothing to do with race but the fact that they surround you and don't allow you to walk away.
