Remington and Poncho certainly aren’t having the Monday blues today as they started the morning with a good romp!

Momma continues to be simply so beautiful!

All these great dogs have been waiting for so very long for their forever families, we hope it won’t be long again!

    URGENT FOSTER NEEDED

    Meet Dee!

Please read below Dee’s story as written by her rescuer and current foster:

“This older sweet soul has been tied up on a 4 ft rope her whole life, then abandoned when her owner moved during the summer. She was picked up from River Road on Friday. She is known to her foster and the GSPCA…she is a quiet gentle girl that just wants to please and be petted. Her foster is moving on Sunday so we urgently need help – even short term. She has gotten all her shots from GSPCA, has been on Bravecto so is tick/flea free, is on meds for heartworm (not bad)/tick fever - and is just mellow and sweet. Having been tied up outside her whole life, she has been incredible in the house -- she only pees/poops outside (even after a long night or after a day away at work), she sleeps through the night on her bed (I actually wake her in the morning and she just wanted her belly rubbed!). She has been either indifferent or a bit interested in dogs, but only a few have crossed her path since Friday. This is her first time walking and sniffing - she doesn't go more than a few feet from her foster without checking to make sure she is still there- she is quite amazing.

If you can offer her a temporary home (with belly rubs) for even a short while, please call her foster (Bonnie) 403-3361 / blrusk1@gmail.com or GSPCA 440-4874.

    Please share!!!

An unusual patient was seen and treated at the GSPCA last week and we had to share the story!

This chicken hawk was brought in injured to the shelter after seen fighting with another bird in the air and then falling to the ground. Our vet team, Dr. Carmen Barba Claassens, Dr. Kate Tracy, Rolando and volunteer Careese took to seeing if there was something we could do!

After sedation an x-ray was taken and it was seen that the right wing had a fractured bone, as well as an open wound that had to be cleaned and sutured. The hawk also had two puncture wounds on the right side of the abdomen and as a skin wound on the right kneeall of which were cleaned and sutured.

The hawk was then given a dry warm place to settle, injections of pain relief and force fed raw chicken. Now that our vet team had medically assisted the hawk, we needed to find somewhere that could rehabilitate and get it ready to learn how to fly againwe found the YWF KIDO FOUNDATION in Carriacou! After back and forth emails, on Friday the hawk boarded the Osprey and landed safe in Carriacou to begin its next step in recovery!

We wanted to thank our vet team, and the Kido foundation for all that they have done and doing for this hawkwe wish the hawk all the best, and will update you as recovery continues!

Truly is never a dull moment at the GSPCA!

    DONATIONS always needed and welcomed!

We’ve been receiving messages from students (both past and present) asking what type of veterinary donations we are in need of so we wanted to make this post in the event others wanted to know!

We take both in-date and expired and would appreciate any and all that can be donated!

It’s fair to say that most of the adult dogs that join the GSPCA come with tick fever and/or heartwormthey are both prevalent in Grenada. Many pups join us with tick fever as well, and if not treated it can be fatal. It goes without saying that the below shown items would be greatly appreciated and used at the shelter!

Any donations can be sent to the below Miami address (a freight forwarder that is open Monday to Friday)!

GSPCA 11305 NW 122nd Street Medley 33178 United States

As always, we thank you for your continued support!

Like a lot of tourists who come to the island I was impressed with the natural wonders and with the hospitality of the people. I was also saddened by the circumstances of some of the animals, mostly the dogs. In one town a dog looked so sick and damaged that it will continue to haunt me. I felt I had to do something so I reached out to this group who deals with the distressed animals everyday. For what I would spend at a fancy restaurant, I could help feed a few dogs for weeks. So if you are like me and feel a need to do something ask for their Amazon wish list and make a few purchases. It's easy! It will be sent to their collection point in Miami. I know this situation exists a lot of places around the world, but I can't just sit by and do nothing hoping someone else will. Thank you for what you do.

These people are the most caring people ever. God Bless their souls. They are genuine people and everything about this organization is positive. I cannot express in words how much they do for the animals. They save dogs and cats lives and are some of the most professional people I have ever met. They are just a wonderful organization and I am so thankful that they exist. All I can say is "Thank You" and I would recommend everyone to help this organization in any way that they can. We are all so "lucky" that Grenada has a place like this.

This is a first-rate organization that takes the resources it has and maximizes them to engage as many people as they can - staff, volunteers, and community - to save as many animals as they can. From community outreach and education, to an amazing foster/adopt program, to professional vet services - they do it all with care and compassion. So impressed!
