Good heat and nice people! I like to go here for after-work relaxing with friends. You can bring your own drinks with you.
This is one of the last public saunas in Helsinki. Its been going strong since 1928. There are separate sauna for male and female customers. You can bring your own towel or hire one for €3. I would suggest bringing your own drinks. On the male side it seems traditional to take a beer.
You can leave your towel in the rack in the shower room. Have a shower before entering the sauna for the first time. On entering you will see the sauna go up in levels. The higher up the hotter it gets. Come and go as you please. Have a cold shower. Stroll outside and sit on the bench and cool off and have a chat.
The sauna is a five minute walk from the Sörnäinen (Sörnäs) Metro station.
This place is an old fashioned public sauna. It is, as other visitors have said, wood-fired. I was here a couple of times. It is very popular with tourists and locals alike. I found the crowd to be very friendly with lots of conversations going on. I definitely would recommend this sauna to anyone who wants to experience an authentic Finnish sauna.
You can sample authentic, old school city sauna atmosphere in this sauna located in the heart of Kallio. Hyvät löylyt!
The best I have been to. Chatting relaxing and original .
Woodfire sauna. Real traditional block sauna from the fifties. Only in nude
Genuine Finnish public sauna. Heated with wood. Friendly staff and service. Take time for this one. 2-3 hours is good.
Upstairs is for ladies.
Remember that there are few rules regarding the sauna. Be polite! You can talk in the sauna but keep your voice down. The clothingroom is for chatting. The ones sitting on the highest benches will decide if their should be any more steam/heat (löyly) in the sauna. Don't fart or misbehave in the sauna. Remember to take a shower before going in to the sauna.
You can take your own beverages and they have a fridge that you can use to keep them cold. The Finnish way is to take your beer and go straight from sauna to sit outside in your towel - what ever the weather is.
Enjoy!
PS. There are even more etiques of behaviour but find them yourself. 😉
I have been here twice (when I moved to Finland some years ago, and now that I'm about to leave the country, hopefully for good), and both times I have had a good experience. The sauna is heated by wood, and although the entrance fee a bit expensive (8.50 Euros with the student discount), it's worth the experience. The sauna is located in Kallio which is a live neighborhood especially in the weekend. Take your cold beer, towel, shampoo, and underwear with you, and enjoy having a beer in the open space outside the sauna and taking fresh air while being half-naked!
Great Finnish sauna experience, though a bit different (Finnish guys actually talk in this sauna ;) ). Nice experience and great people.
Bring your own beer since the only alcoholic one sold here is a light option (2,7°)
