Very unique hotel. Great location. Only 30 min walk or 5 min tram ride from the city center. Wifi was on point. Though the rooms got quite hot even thought we turned the temperature the coldest point. I can finally say I spent the night in jail.

This former prison turned hotel is very much in the heart of katakanokka. It is quiet if you like that kind of hotel and the decoration inside give you a feel of being in a luxurious version of Alcatraz. The restaurant is alright, the gym is sufficient for a simple work out, nothing more unfortunately. Walking the city is more than enough exercise. It is close enough to the city so that you can explore most of the city by foot, if not a team station is just outside the hotel. We stayed in a room with its own sauna and it was a wonderful treat every evening.

I was intrigued by the history of the hotel and it was interesting to see the tall walls surrounding the hotel, a reminder of its old days. This aspect was a fun, interesting part of our stay here. The room was fantastic. We had seen pictures online with small windows but were ok with it considering the smart looking rooms, but we had a large window with a lovely view into the courtyard. The room was very smart, clean and comfortable; couldn't be happier. The service was very friendly and helpful. The stay also comes with breakfast which had a wide variety of average quality food - hot food, cold cuts, bread, fruit, cereal, the works. Plenty to keep you going on your explorations of Helsinki. The location, although slightly out of town, was absolutely no issue. There is a tram line we noticed that runs right outside the hotel but we didn't even bother and walked everywhere. I would 100% stay here again.

Nice authentic "prison style" interior all around the hotel. Great weekend get-away. I stayed there for business for 3 days and enjoyed it very much. Friendly staff, very charming rooms, nice small lobby bar, which serves drinks till 2AM. Good restaurant downstairs - if you are going to a dinner there, I suggest to try the "Hella", which includes three dishes: seafood salads, main course (steak) and a dessert. Grab a nice red vine and order no more! ;)

Interesting history of the hotel and both the building and surrounding garden is beautiful. Mostly tasteful renovation and decoration, but I dislike the carpet in the main room. Food was great and service excellent!

Went with my husband during our honeymoon. We found our room nice and cosy, without any noise coming from the outside, the whole hotel was generally quiet; the staff was friendly and helpful.
I found the breakfast amazing, with a large choice of foods like breads, cakes and brioches, but also fresh salmon, herrings , salami and fruit.response / report this review -

Great value for money! The hotel is very good, the AC in our room worked great. They have the friendliest staff in the world. The tram stop is right in front of the hotel, you are downtown Helsinki in 10 minutes.

In an unlikely a place as you can imagine, a former jail, is a beautiful, and extremely comfortable hotel. The common areas and the room are very inviting. The staff go out of their way to help the guests. For example, I found the room a little too cool for my comfort, and they cheerfully provided a space heater. Also, the restaurant is excellent, although a bit pricey. Unfortunately it was often closed by the time I returned to the hotel, but a glass of wine (good wine, too) was always available.The transportation is extremely convenient, with a tram stop right outside the hotel. I would definitely return here.

Room was quiet and cozy with comfortable bed. However the room was a bit small for two people. It also was dusty more than usual. And if you want some fresh air -
windows are problematic to open because you need a chair to reach them. No problems with shower water pressure.
Breakfast was quite good. Hotel offered relatively inexpensive parking on premises (on a first come first served basis).
Overall a pleasant two night stay in an unusual hotel.response / report this review -

The idea of a former prison being a hotel is so novel that it has been turned into a tourist attraction, visited by coach tours. It offered us free tea, coffee and biscuits as it opened its tours to our coach tour. We had a tour of the galleries and some rooms. It's quite impressive and I'd certainly stay there if I were again in Helsinki, although I cannot vouch for the prices.

The breakfast here is simply amazing! One of the best ones I ever had.

Hotel in a renovated prison. The room we had was the former prison laundry and it had a sauna in the room. The attached restaurant has many good traditional dishes and the included breakfast buffet is delicious
