Great Italian food with a touch of history.
Excellent food, mediocre service
Nice traditional italian food
I called to book for the first time and faced the extreme rudeness of the response. It went so far that I hung up without booking, which never happened to me before. Now that I read the other comments, this place is known for that terrible customer service. Being the "number one" restaurant in Addis shouldn't allow you to be so rude and self-sufficient! Needless to say I am boycotting this place for the next two years I'm in Addis.
This is the Italian Restaurant No. 1 in Addis Ababa. You would need a timely booking to get a seat, especially if you are in a group.
Castelli is an old exsisting Italian Restaurant, The Food is Typical Italian served with Italian wine, The place is with Tpyicall Italian Restaurant Atmosphere, usually overbooked, so Reservation is important.

An exquisite place and a very popular Italian Restaurant with exceptional service.
I had the unfortunate experience of partially dining here with a friend last week. The fried calamari was good although little seasoning and the wine was very good. However when the main course turned up, the fillet steak with black peppercorn sauce was simply dreadful. It was completely flat as if it had been run over and the sauce was some watery cream with a bit of black pepper in and totally tasteless. In fact we both left our mains and decided to search elsewhere for something more appetising. As the previous reviewer mentions, the manager is extremely rude and doesn't seem to care. This is quite a shame as it looks as though it could be a great institution. Sadly not.
What a tremendously disappointing experience. This review isn't of the food, because unfortunately I didn't make it that far. The owner of the restaurant was impossibly rude, first telling me they were full for another hour and a half (which was fine), then refusing me: a) the ability to look at the menu b) asking any questions about the food, telling me that I could do that once I've been seated and c) from putting my name down for a reservation.
What was perhaps the most disappointing aspect of it all was that I was incredibly keen on trying the place out, but instead was met by a massively rude owner who can neither communicate effectively nor show respect to his customers. While this experience doesn't reduce my desire to someday try the food from this establishment, I genuinely feel that it's rating must reflect the potential of being severely off-put by the service and first impression given upon entering.
In my own opinion, I don't believe that a business run by such a personality should be supported, but should you choose to do so, expect to meet perhaps the most unsavoury human being you'll ever meet.
Good Italian food
Si mangia bene.
