Exceeded expectations - the entrance fee is steep but truly worth every penny as spent the whole day visiting Lalibela’s masterplans. Would advise to get there early and with a guide speaking your native language, ideally on a Sunday morning or if you’re really lucky, during one of the church’s ceremonial days to see the priests and monks sing and dance.

In defence of the steep entrance fee($50) for foreigners, this goes towards the maintenance of site and salary of the priests which I was more than happy to contribute to as it was that special an experience.

The most ornate of the Lalibela churches. Notice how it is a replica of a wooden built church, with beams carved in stone. Bring a flashlight to check out the interior paintings and carvings.

The churches are awesome but the entrance fee REALLY sucked. Ethiopia Nationals pay only 10 birr for entrance but foreigners have to pay 50 dollars which are 100 times more than that of locals!

This is more breathtaking than I originally had anticipated. This place is not for people who have trouble walking or doing light climbing - but to see this was amazing.

Astonishing rock-out church its one of my favoirite from 13 medivel churches inside Lalibela.
when visiting these 13 medivel churches please bring your sockes and simple shoes. Most area in tge the church you are not allowed to wear a shoe.

Very nice place with unique buildings. The entrance fee is high since they only sell 5 day passes. Do not buy from street or friends. They write on the ticket who they sold it too. (sex, nationality, weight? etc.)

This is the most famous church in lalibella. Before hiring a guide make sure it is an official guide, try to bargain. (Official price is 600 Birr for up to 4 persons for a full day) but you shouldn't pay more than 500. Also make sure to get a recipe.
