STAY @ ETHIOPIS HOTEL INSTEAD

Following the Bradt guidebook recommendation my wife, son and I decided to stay at the Africa Hotel. What a mistake!

The "prison cell-esque" room was a shambles. We can understand the lack of wifi reception typical of travelling in Ethiopia, but the leaking toilet, broken hot water hose and general apathy toward our concerns was too much. I even asked to see another room similar to ours. That one had no shower head and no tv.

We stayed one night and moved to the Ethiopis Hotel the next morning. Everything works, superior service,and for only 80 ETB more per night.

Op zich wel een prima hotel hier in Aksum, maar ik ben ervan overtuigd dat er ondertussen wel wat beters te krijgen is. Kamers zijn ok, schoon, maar wel gehorig. Ligt een eindje van de bezienswaardigheden vandaan.

Een redelijk hotel voor een goedkope prijs, vriendelijk personeel, kamers zijn netjes. Echter één trap (het dichtst bij de ingang) is slecht verlicht en de treden liggen vol aangekoekt beton. WiFi deed het geen enkele keer. Bij het restaurant moet je lang wachten op je bestelling. In de tussentijd kun je het tafelkleedje bestuderen met daarop de resten van de maaltijden van zo'n drie andere gasten. Mijn bestelde gerecht, toen het eenmaal kwam, was van goede kwaliteit.

For just 250 birr per night for a double room you can't expect much. The rooms are clean with working hot shower but look rather like a prison cell than a hotel room. The hotel has wifi, laundry service and a bar/restaurant. It's the favorite place for backpackers in axum.
