Huge mountains spread across several acres of land in Ethiopia. Variety species of monkeys found here including gibbons and chimpanzee. They are the visitors major attractions in these mountains. Good surroundings of trees with a short river flowing. Villagers (tribes) actually stay here in these mountains derives the resources from the forest here.

If you want pure adventure in Ethiopia look nowhere else but to the Semen Mountains. The best season to hike is from October to January, preferably October and November. I have hiked for 3 days and nights. It is very challenging but I have enjoyed it specially after I have finished it, I will be definitely hiking again even for extended period of time.

Some of the greatest scenery in the world. View from the top makes the Grand Canyon look like a sandbox. Lovely hikes or 3 day hike up to Rad Dashen, tallest mountain in the country. Lots of hairy Gelada baboons, frequently Simien wolves, and occasionally the rare Ibex. Simien Mountain Lodge is eco friendly and great. Can be expensive with park fees and mandatory guard and guide.

Beautiful parc in a beautiful country. The Gelada monkeys are very easy to spot and not afraid. You can easily walk between them. I could have sat there for hours but the surroundings is also beautiful so also very nice to go for a walk here. Must see destination! We just went for a day trip but that was very nice. No complaints at all. Just enjoying myself.

Sure the views are amazing, but the rubbish and filth at lodges and campgrounds is disgusting Far too many drunk Ethiopian guides at the lodges/campgrounds.. Alcohol should be banned. The taxi mafia into the park is rediculous but no choice..

This is a great park, book yourself into the Siemen lodge and enjoy watching the Gelada who are grass eating baboons. In fact get out and go for long walks but beware the weather can change rapidly from sunshine to rain and cold, therefore be prepared. For another trip one can travel deep into the National Park in an attempt to find the Walia Ibex, they are difficult to see and photograph, because the enjoy the mist and fog.

For a long walk up to Ras Deshan beware of altitude sickness, this walk is only suitable for those who are very fit and well equipped.

Trekkers used to ask me if they could walk down to the Tekeze dam, well that's a very special two possibly three day walk. An experienced guide is essential be warned this is an arduous trek, through tough country. Be prepared for baboons and leopards.

Enjoy the lodge which is arguably the highest in Africa, I heard there is a high lodge in the Atlas mountains.

Spectacular trip on bumpy roads to the mountains. We had a lot of fog when we did our hike but if felt like walking through a dream land. It can get hard to breath up there as the oxygen is less but the views and the trails are gorgeous. There are locals up there that want to sell you baskets so bring some change if you're interested in hand crafted local art.

Beautiful nature, but heavily commercialised, rushed by western tourists.
Overprized tours with questionable value and some misbehaving staff constantly urging for additional money.
Bargain hard with several tour agents! Up to 50% on faranji-prizes is possible, but NOT easy to obtain.

Chronically overpassengered car-transportation on very poor road. Camping facilities worn out, water often out of order. No real supplies inside the park - take all you need with you at best from Gondar (except beers sold at some places :) ).

The monkeys (no baboons - gelada!) are cute. Other animals beside the also omnipresent thick-billed ravens only with field glasses!

Nature at it's best. Ethiopia's endemic Walia Ibex, Galada Baboon, and Red Fox with many other animals await every visitor. The most challenging treks and hikes will test your faith and strength.

Plenty of baboons and we saw some Ethiopian wolves and ibex. Weather was quite bad so we missed most of the views.

Too much impact of people on the park though.

Very beautiful and untouched nature. You can easily see monkey families and possibly bezoar goat (we were lucky to see them in the canyon and even have one visiting our camp!). Be prepared to camp with virtually no facilities .
