Stunning rock church from 6th century. Great quick climb and views are just breathtaking! To get there you need to walk along a small ledge with 200m vertical drop so if you suffer from vertigo think again about it.

I'm so happy I took time to visit some of the churches in Tigray. One that was a memory I will cherish forever is my visit to Abuna Yemata Guh, a church very inaccessible and requiring a rock climb and no fear of hights on the top of a mountain. The view was stunning, and the climb, while frightening, was exhilarating!

The place is beautiful, but there are many „scavengers“ and self-proclaimed „guides“ around. One such random guy stopped our van and forcibly entered in it in a near village (before we knew how offensive they are). He refused to get out and claimed he is a mandatory payed „guide“ and went all the way to the cave church with us. There he blocked the way by steps up by his body. When we did not want to hire him, he claimed we must show him passports. Extremely annoying. The monk on the top charges you as well and there are another guys on the way who collect entrance fee. As our proverb say: „Too many roosters at one rubbish heap“
