Super friendly and helpful staff! Perfect service! Worried about the parking in advance due to the old town location, parking service was perfect. Nice interior all over. Cozy pool in the very cute garden. Good location near old town and external gym in the vicinity (synergym, the hotel itself has no gym). TV in the room is too small. Highly recommended hotel. Excellent! Hope I get the opportunity to return. Muchas Gracias!

Oversold. Perhaps the 5 stars category is for the spa and the restaurant? The accommodations were just OK for a hotel in this category. A bit on the smallish side for their basic room. Some terrible design choices like the door locks (you have to get a tutorial from the staff to use the key properly) and a very heavy metal and glass door to access the rooms hall (a challenge to open under normal conditions, an obstacle when pulling luggage). The hotel entrance was always clogged with cars and there was no separate walkway entrance for pedestrians so you had to walk in and out of the hotel squeezing between the cars and the wall. The things that worked like 5 stars was the A/C, super quiet room, and helpful and friendly staff. About 12 minutes to walk to the Mezquita. If you're not into the spa, you can probably do a lot better booking one of the better rooms in a lesser category hotel.

Just fabulous. 3rd visit in 10 months. Staff, rooms, public spaces all super. The company should be proud of this establishment. Spacious and luxurious. Nothing is too much bother for the staff

An encounter between the historical setting and a modern decoration. your mileage may vary as this clash is not for everyone. But the staff is kind and the location is OK. The rooms are comfortable and clean but lacking plugs and tables/anything to put stuff on (nothing in bathroom to lay your stuff for exemple)
The minus: the corridors are extremely noisy waking up at 7am on a saturday because of banging doors, and staff? speaking very loudly is not really nice

Just finished long weekend at the Hospes Palacio Del Bailio in Cordoba.

Quite shocked at how bad this place is especially given the 'official' five star rating.

First of all, it's quite hard to find, we missed the turning and it took another 20 minutes to drive back there again via the one-way system. Whatever it claims it's NOT in the centre - a good 25min walk down to the main attractions.

Second we were stuck in an annex that had a high window on a courtyard - awful place to put us given a 200+ Euro room rate. (This on a wet weekend in February). You don't expect massive rooms in a historic place but this was much poorer than expectation.

The 'tour' was perfunctory and we never got to see the Roman stuff in the basement which is only available at 3pm when every sensible tourist is out looking at the main sites.

The 'Roman Baths' were a total joke. Cramped, four couples allowed in at once, and the temperature of the three pools were (in order) freezing, cool and tepid. The Romans would not have been amused at the complete absence of hot water in the supposedly hot pool. Hopeless. On top of that there is no changing area there so you had to come down already in robe and slippers. From an annexe across an uncovered courtyard, bucketing with cold rain. Lovely. There is no internal route across.

The charge for parking was 27 Euros a day. (No mention of this during the booking process). But there is no car park. You hand over your keys and they take the car away. If I had known this I might have gone elsewhere as my experience with valet parking in historic centres in both Spain and Italy has been very poor. I had been told on arrival that 5 minutes notice was required when getting the car back. But when I actually needed the car I was told 30 minutes as there was a queue. (Not unexpected after breakfast, but this was certainly not the five minutes quoted). On complaining the parking charge was partially reduced but it left a bad taste.

We did occasionally see the car, parked bumper to bumper with other cars out in the street, this worried me and indeed I did note when I got back to drop the car off in Malaga that the fomerly pristine rear bumper on our rented Fiat had two massive black chips out of the enamel. The car was accepted back by Avis but they were in a hurry and I remain concerned that a bill is on its way for the repair. (I have an annual excess cover policy but it's a hasle to claim).

All in all, with the parking woes, the cramped rooms, the slack service, the poor bathing facilities, I'm astonished that this establishment has five stars. We booked it as it was reputedly the only 5-star place in Cordoba, but it SORELY disappointed. Who on earth awarded this place five stars - can I speak to them please?

Two more things - we had a repeated issue with the room key. How expensive is it just to fit some proper locks instead of the flaky electronic rubbish that is currently in place? And - it pains me to say - the quality of some of the other guests left something to be desired. One time we came into the 'living room' (as the hotel calls it) - a fairly comfortable shared space with tables and couches - to find a large, heavy set, swarthy chap kipped out on one of the couches, trainers up on the upholstery. Well, really, can you imagine such a thing in the equivalent historic city break hotel in, say, Bath or Edinburgh? You really don't expect to come across some scruffy dosser having an early evening sleep in this kind of setting.

I have given this review two stars. Why two an not one? The only saving grace is the food. The breakfasts were excellent, the wines well chosen and the tasting menus up to a high standard, and the prices were reasonable. Shame about the muzak though in the restaurant and in the 'living room' it undeniably cheapens the ambience.

All told, the hotel does not live up to its billing, it's overpriced for the level of facilities, badly run, and is frankly taking the piss on its parking charges and arrangements. Recommendation - it's really best to avoid this place.
